There has to be more to it, the Mets part especially makes no sense currently.Beni for a pitching lottery ticket and an OF 2 months younger and significantly worse than Beni. I'm sure there's a logical explanation...
Agreed. I am willing to give a mulligan on the Mookie trade, as it wasn't his fault and the return is likely to be pretty good.If it's just Cordero, this is puzzling.
We've kept up the mantra "In Chaim we trust" but there hasn't been much he's done that feels right at all.
Yet at the same age Benintendi has put up 8.5 fWAR to Cordero's 0.7. So one is an established quality MLB player and the other is an oft injured prospect on the edge of being a never-been.Well, Benintendi has never had plus power, he hasn't had plus speed since 2019, he can barely play a decent LF let alone CF, and is under control through 2022. Otherwise...
This pretty much captures my thoughts. I'm puzzled and deflated.Agreed. I am willing to give a mulligan on the Mookie trade, as it wasn't his fault and the return is likely to be pretty good.
But since then. Nada. I feel like we're getting the Tampa experience without the talent.
I was hoping that any Benintendi trade would at least facilitate keeping JBJ. But it doesn't seem like it.
This team has rapidly become a team of strangers.
I'm just the other side. I like just about everything he's done. There seems to be a real plan.this is exactly where I am. Every single deal feels “meh” or worse.
He got a guy that can ostensibly give us what Benintendi does and a prospect. What's the problem?Chaim, you've got some 'splaining to do.
Sounds like selling low
First day here?Maybe we should actually wait until the trade is completed before shitting on Bloom?
I also like judging trades in the same offseason they occur in. Maybe the players are crap, but maybe we should see them in the lineup or not being able to make the lineup before saying that. Right now this doesn't make all that much sense to me either, but there seems to be more pieces involved.First day here?
Folks want to trade Benintendi and then when we do we CLEARLY don't get enough.
People need multiple places to game thread on the main board. Can we confine the trade talk to a single thread?
You‘re that confident in Cordero? He got a guy that can ostensibly give us what Benintendi does
Agreed and done. All posts from the old and locked thread about this trade have been moved to this one.Can we confine the trade talk to a single thread?
Ok, now that is a good nickname.I, for one, welcome our new Franchy Mo Pena overlords.
That's not how we operate.Maybe we should actually wait until the trade is completed before shitting on Bloom?
Bref projects Benintendi for a .773 OPS and Cordero for a .750 this season. Others can speak to their defense and cost, but they seem pretty close and we get a guy that's gonna likely slot into top 20 on our prospect list.I also like judging trades in the same offseason they occur in. View: https://twitter.com/jazayerli/status/1359695136528171008?s=19This is...a lot to give up, honestly, and there's a chance either or both of Lee and Cordero could break out and be better than Benintendi. But there's also a chance neither of them is ever an everyday player. But this deal has more parts to it so let's wait for more details.
Well, after his last 2 seasons (even if one of them is only a 14 game sample) it would pretty much have to be. Even a team who is very bullish on him as a change of scenery guy isn't going to empty the farm for him.Sounds like selling low
Bref has their projections pretty close. And he's a lot cheaper. You‘re that confident in Cordero?
I mean, Benintendi's a doubles machine, but Cordero's time has been significantly spent at all three OF positions and SS. He's clearly more versatile in the field. Depending on who else the Sox are getting back, they may view his bat as one that will take advantage of the Green Monster.Bref projects Benintendi for a .773 OPS and Cordero for a .750 this season. Yes, but I think Finn did it firstOk, now that is a good nickname.
View: https://twitter.com/redsoxstats/status/1359695500094672897?s=19Cordero had ridiculous power and speed combination, and this summer some of his underlying numbers started showing drastic improvement. I'm guessing this will be talked about. He kept his incredible barrel rate and hard hit numbers, while drastically cutting his swing and miss.
Even at worst, his power is so incredible it has let him play as a league average batter, with a ton of upside still. We'll see on all the minor leaguers and if the Sox opened up money.
I also am intrigued to see if he can use the Monster to his advantage as a lefty power and speed guy. He is very tantalizing.Bref has their projections pretty close. And he's a lot cheaper.
I thought he was gonna be something special too.Sad to lose Beni regardless of how the trade works out - lot's of great memories of him. I honestly thought he was going to win a batting title here. And goodbye Chaim if he ends up winning one in KC
They also have Benintendi being a full time player (vs Cordero platooning) and putting up almost twice as much WAR. Because Beni might not be good at hitting lefties, but Cordero is abysmal at it. Also, Beni has a career to project those numbers from, whereas Cordero has barely played in the majors so the error bars are going to be a lot higher on his projection. I'm not saying he has to suck, he might be very good and just never gotten the chance. But Benintendi is much more of a known quantity and that is worth more.Bref projects Benintendi for a .773 OPS and Cordero for a .750 this season. Well now we can have Franchy fries and Franchy dressing and Franchy breadHonest, non-snarky question: Why?
I wouldn't be surprised if the money saved moving Beni goes to resigning JBJOur entire 2018 starting outfield is gone.
Well, one of the things that is “known” about Beni is that he had a historically atrocious season last year and then was shut down. Which, sure, could be an aberration but it has to be factored in.But Benintendi is much more of a known quantity and that is worth more.
