Chris Trapasso of CBS said "Bell was the steal of the seventh-round. I have no idea how he lasted this far into the draft. He's a chiseled and athletic yards-after-the-catch weapon."

No idea if that's true, but here's a highlights video:

Sounds like he's not much of a blocker but he does look kinda shifty when you can get him in space. To my untrained eyes I didn't see him winning a ton of routes 1:1 in that video, feels like maybe you have to scheme him open, but what do I know.

This is the same conclusion I've come to, explosive athlete but not necessarily agile, good in space, but has issues creating separation 1:1. Will have to scheme him open, may be easier if his blocking improves and you can run him out of PA sets, but he feels very similar to Jonnu Smith.

So interestingly he ran the ball 76 times in his final year at South Carolina. FSU didn’t use him that way but he may have some of that versatility that Hernandez and Jonnu had.

Someone on ESPN comped him to Kyle Juszczyk and I went fully erect. I’ve been asking for a FB since Jakob Johnson left. The run game hasn’t been the same since. Really hoping they’re looking to use him that way.

That would get me excited and would fit his profile well. Using his size and speed to run routes against linebackers in space out of the backfield would be awesome. He may not be the best blocker at TE, but it's a different skill set than blocking at FB.

I'm intrigued.

Doesn't sound like blocking is his forte, so probably not going to be a fullback. I will echo the comparison to Jonnu Smith, who was terrible for us, but has been successful elsewhere.

Bad as Jonnu was, he was easily worth a 7th round pick/7th round contract to us.

Obviously different players at different positions, but I could see Bell being a bigger, less shifty Deebo as an ideal outcome. The way Deebo is used could be a model for how they might be able to use Bell in the offense. Clearly Bell is bigger and top end speed is not as fast, but his 10 and 20 yard splits are identical/a tick faster. It's too bad there aren't any agility drill measurements for Bell, but he seems to have enough agility on film to be used all over the formation. H-back, as a single back, jet sweeps, WR screens, slip screens, in the backfield in pistol formation, and, if he works on his route running, he should be able to run most of the route tree I would think.

Realizing that a chiseled 6’2” 240 is a tweener just broke my brain.

A fullback! We've seen such good success with that role, but he'll need to put on both weight and height to meet the requirements:

Bell - 6'2", 240 lbs
Develin - 6'3", 255 lbs
Jakobs - 6'3", 255 lbs

IMHO, the team offense truly took a hit when Jakobs left and was not formally replaced. I believe they considered Gesicki for the role, but he's too tall and turnstile-oriented to be the effective blocker back there. This is perfect use of a R7 pick.

Kyle Juszczyk is 6'2", 235 lbs.

I was kidding - need to remember to add a satire tag. I just found it funny that Develin and Jakobs were listed at the exact same dimensions as players. And indeed, Juszczyk is the kind of player more teams should be seeking - selfless, dynamic, and able to line up effectively all over the place.

Ah okay, I was somewhat wondering whether you were being facetious given that there's only one inch and 15 pounds separating Bell from Jakobs and Develin.

He's a TE that isn't a good blocker. Why would we want him at FB?

He's a guy they are going to attempt to scheme out into open spaces with green around him, not line him up in the backfield in front of Stevenson.

Did AVP use a FB or H-Back in Cleveland?
Apparently on plays where they used a FB it was a backup center.

Blocking as a TE and blocking as a FB are entirely different skillsets. As a TE you're mainly blocking from the line while a FB blocks from the backfield. Way more motion/pulling as a FB which mixes well with his athleticism.

I assume he’s either going to improve his blocking or be gone. Doesn’t seem to have the talent needed to thrive as a pure receiver.

Probably. I don't dive too deep into late round TEs, but Lazar/Barth seem to think this guy was some kind of a steal.
