The Sox release said mild shoulder inflammation. I highly doubt he could be pitching the way he has with any serious injury. Seems like appropriate kid gloves treatment. He's been the best pitcher on the planet by a wide margin for 2 months now.
He has been throwing as hard as he ever has... definately no evidence of injury.
And now we pray.
That would be more likely were we not playing the Yankees.I'm sure this is just a way to give him more rest to keep him healthy for October. I'm sure his arm is actually fine. Nothing to see here. No big deal. Now is not the time to panic.
Maybe they think Sale will exert more effort vs the Yankees. Plus the Yankees are a potential playoff opponent so it's one less time they see Chris Sale.the fact this is enough to skip a Yankee start is a big deal, right? or are they not thinking that way?

Sox calling this “mild” inflammation for Sale. Brandon Workman recalled. Brian Johnson starts on Thursday. They believe he will miss one start.

I don't think who they're playing has any bearing on how they treat him. If they think having him miss a start or two is best for the team long term, then that's what they do. If this were the playoffs, he'd probably pitch. But it's not.again, if he's fine, why are they skipping a start against the Yankees? the opener where we can set the tone on the series?
Like a bad dream. I wonder if the new added velocity has caught up with him.Well this just ruined my fucking day
none at allOh. What. The. Fuck.
Was there any news at all leading up to this? I feel like I just got suckerpunched by a news story.
That puts a lot of pressure on Pom for today. Velazquez pitched yesterday.Pete AbrahamVerified account @PeteAbe 3m3 minutes ago

You think the Yankees haven't seen enough of Sale already that skipping a start in early August is going to maintain some element of surprise or mystery?Maybe they think Sale will exert more effort vs the Yankees. Plus the Yankees are a potential playoff opponent so it's one less time they see Chris Sale.
Hey, sailor ... new in town?So not even an MRI. This really is no cause for panic.
When he comes back after missing one start (hopefully) I’m going to worry about him for at least the rest of the year.So not even an MRI. This really is no cause for panic.
Probably not but I do believe he'd be trying a bit harder vs the Yankees than the Twins. Either way, it seems like people are really overreacting. I'm sure Tom Caron's tweet didn't help much. You think the Yankees haven't seen enough of Sale already that skipping a start in early August is going to maintain some element of surprise or mystery?
I 100% believe the inflammation is real and better to sit him for a turn or two than have him pitch through it and potentially make things worse either in the shoulder or somewhere else due to over-compensating. Better now than September.
I am panicking plenty for himSale doesn't need to be worried about it. People here seem to have that covered.
I still think they're taking this next NY series a little too lightly. Let Sale go one more then skip a start / DL him, when we're facing the remnants of the Blue Jays and O's.Sale doesn't need to be worried about it. People here seem to have that covered.
I've been completely freaked out about his health literally since the trade. We put a loooooot of eggs in that basket.I am panicking plenty for him
Please tell me this is sarcasm.again, if he's fine, why are they skipping a start against the Yankees? the opener where we can set the tone on the series?
He finished with exactly 100 pitches. His 6th (and last) inning was a 1-2-3 with 2 SO, the last batter even struck out on 3 pitches including a 97.5 mph heater. I can't remember any moment in this game where he looked uncomfortable in any way...Jesus what a kick in the balls that is. He did leave his last start a bit early {panics}.
I'd rather they take the NY series a little too lightly than Chris Sale's mild shoulder inflammation.I still think they're taking this next NY series a little too lightly. Let Sale go one more then skip a start / DL him, when we're facing the remnants of the Blue Jays and O's.
I get it but we really don't want to let NY back in in any way. in the end it's just about 20% or so of one game's projected win probability, hopefully they cream CC and it's all good.
No, they're taking this series appropriately. And they know how many games back the Yankees are. And they're focusing on the long game.I still think they're taking this next NY series a little too lightly. Let Sale go one more then skip a start / DL him, when we're facing the remnants of the Blue Jays and O's.

Do you think Sale is in on the subterfuge? If there’s something there give him 10 days off. Why would you possibly risk it by giving him one more start?I still think they're taking this next NY series a little too lightly. Let Sale go one more then skip a start / DL him, when we're facing the remnants of the Blue Jays and O's.
