You know, I've lurked here long enough to remember when a lot of this board threw a hissy fit when Tim Thomas didn't visit the Obama white house because he didn't like Obama. A bunch of "respect the office", etc. The same thing even happened when Brady didn't go in 2015, even when he didn't say it was because of politics.
I think Obama did far more damage to this country than Trump has and was pretty proud of Tim Thomas for standing up to Obama like that. If the narrative back then was "I don't agree with his political views, but I respect his right not to go, and there's nothing wrong with him not going", then I would begrudgingly accept the position of this board as different from mine, but logically consistent.
Currently though, this is basically Liberals contorting themselves into believing that their beliefs are unambiguously superior and the people who don't agree with them are just dumb rubes. I support President Trump. I think he's done a pretty good job so far, especially with judges and taxes, but he's also done a great job with deregulation and fighting ISIS. I do think he goes too far some times and should stop tweeting, and I don't particularly agree with him on immigration and trade, but there are worse flaws to have in a President. I also respect that many people may not like Trump, and should not be forced to go to the White House. That's fine too! The problem is the people who act all indignant at the fact that someone dares to have a different belief from them, and may actually like President Trump! When consuming pop culture, Conservatives have put up with people who disagree with them for years. I hate the politics of many actors and musicians I listen to all the time (as well as football players!) but that doesn't mean they're suddenly evil people, they just have different opinions than me, and I can separate my taste for their entertainment from my disagreement with their politics. Liberals, you would do well to do the same thing. I disagree with any Red Sox player who chooses not to go, but also am not going to throw a fit over it. I would be really upset if the whole team acquiesced to the Liberal mob and forced the organization not to go, even when many players likely are supporters of our President.
I think it's important to recognize that Conservatives are people just like all of you, and while they may have a difference of opinion with you, that doesn't make them bad people, it doesn't mean they're evil. They just have different morals and support different things. There are plenty of things Liberals support that I believe to be morally heinous, but I do not believe Liberals actually support the mass murder of innocent infants, they clearly have a different, in my opinion, misguided, reason for the policies they support.
