Agreed. Guy raked when healthy, especially at Fenway. If they get him for under 8 or so, that's a steal.
He’s concerned with the physical because of his knee. The report about the Sox agreeing to terms is not premature.Bradford saying it's a premature report
The option year signals to me that Pedroia’s knee isn’t isn’t anywhere near where the team hoped it would be at this point.I know Marco was really going to take it slow. I wonder if his health sped up the Nunez negotiations.
His versatility defensively also allows us to both fill in for Pedey and after he returns give regular rest to all the infield starters without having to start a terrible bat. This is a good UT signing.
Last season we saw the best of Nunez. Next year I think Baseball Reference has it about right: 0.288/ 0.331 /0 .440.
Pretty good player.
I think that's an overreaction. Pedroia isn't young. Any injury could kill his career and it's good to have options. The option year signals to me that Pedroia’s knee isn’t isn’t anywhere near where the team hoped it would be at this point.
I thought he'd be over 10 per - but then Kendrick signed for 2 yrs 7 total.Happy to hear this if true. Wondering if this suggests concern over Pedey but even if not there are plenty of AB to be had for him between 3B, LF, 2B , DH
1.8 WAR player should probably be getting more than the 8 million most expect on a 1 yr deal, but still leaves room for JDM or LoMO
The first part is definitely true — and it may have already occurred. Micro-fracture knee surgery isn’t a death sentence, but it’s not a quick scope of some cartilage, either.I think that's an overreaction. Pedroia isn't young. Any injury could kill his career and it's good to have options.
I like it pending the details about the dollars but it's going to give us a lot less flexibility in the JDM negotiations.
Agreed. They know Pedroia is out for at least the first 6-8 weeks of the season. Signing Nunez is more of a signal of concern of Hernandez's and maybe even Holt's health. They have to cover the gap until Pedroia returns first. The option year is probably part luxury tax hack and part a make-good deal for Nunez. If he has a good healthy year, he can opt for free agency. No way the Sox give him that option if they're concerned about Pedroia beyond this season and see Nunez as the best answer.I think that's an overreaction. Pedroia isn't young. Any injury could kill his career and it's good to have options.

One could make the argument that this is a feature, not a bug. A small signing like this isn't the same as walking away or lowering the offer, but it's kind of like saying "we're getting on with 2018. Do you want a deal or not?"I think that's an overreaction. Pedroia isn't young. Any injury could kill his career and it's good to have options.

Damn, 1 year 4 million? That’s crazy low
Pepen says Nunez's deal is 1 year/$4 million with a '19 option.
While I agree, concerns about the knee undoubtedly depressed his market.$4 million? That's an insane steal. I would have been happy to hear it was double that.
There is the other reason that has kept players unsigned into February as well. Practically Nobody is making what was predicted, short in either AAV or years or both. While I agree, concerns about the knee undoubtedly depressed his market.
He sprained a pcl ligament. It did not require surgery.Has it ever been disclosed just what the injury to his knee was, or if anything was done in the off-season to correct it? I mean he was carried off the field twice after failing to get out of the batters box. I think $4M is a great deal, but its hard to be confident he will be any healthier than Pedroia at this point.
Fantastic news. 4 million is a steal and this likely means no wasted at-bats to Brock Holt.
No , but a team does not commit 4 million to player whose health is uncertain, at least not when they are up against the tax and penalties. So much of Nunez value is attached to his speed and any doubts at all would be a hard pass.Has it ever been disclosed just what the injury to his knee was, or if anything was done in the off-season to correct it? That's not happening, but I do wonder if Cashman has his eye on how the catcher battle in BOS shakes out in spring training, as I'm pretty sure Sandy Leon would be an upgrade on the black hole of suck that is Austin Romine at backup C. Presumably Dombrowski would send him somewhere to try to keep him away from NY, assuming he doesn't make BOS's team, or maybe he wouldn't care. How long before the Yanks pick up Brock, watch him hit 15-20 HRs off the bench and listen to Kay wax poetic about the Sox giving up on a past All-Star?
Based on last year, I would love to see Holt in pinstripes. Hell, I'll personally drive him there myself. How long before the Yanks pick up Brock, watch him hit 15-20 HRs off the bench and listen to Kay wax poetic about the Sox giving up on a past All-Star?
I’m thinking that “The City That Never Sleeps” would not likely be beneficial to his vertigo symptoms. How long before the Yanks pick up Brock, watch him hit 15-20 HRs off the bench and listen to Kay wax poetic about the Sox giving up on a past All-Star?
