They need to keep an in tact roster until their season ends on the 4th is my guess. I'm sure they'll be up by then.where's Marrero / Lin for X? would think that would be a given.
Was actually hoping they could have snuck him on the roster before the deadline and give him a month-long audition to take Young's lefty-masher place before the playoffs but that was obviously a pipe dream. It would be inexscuisble for Bryce Brentz to not be called up ASAP
I can't believe I'm typing this, but Swihart's presence allows Farrell to plug Vazquez into the DH slot.I've long been a Swihart fanboy, but I'm not sure what his .550 OPS is going to do for this team. I'd rather he still get at bats in AAA.
The Yankees are starting all RHPs the rest of this series, and Bradley could be back tomorrow. They do get Happ again Monday, so it's at least possible they might just be waiting to make the 40 man move until they know for sure whether or not a new 60 day DL candidate will be created in the meantime. It would be inexscuisble for Bryce Brentz to not be called up ASAP
Who gets dropped from the 40-man roster? Henry Owens looks to be the likely candidate. It would be inexscuisble for Bryce Brentz to not be called up ASAP
Probably Kyle MartinWho gets dropped from the 40-man roster? Henry Owens looks to be the likely candidate.
He's just been announced as going to the AFL, so I doubt they'd let him goWho gets dropped from the 40-man roster? Henry Owens looks to be the likely candidate.

Exactly.I can't believe I'm typing this, but Swihart's presence allows Farrell to plug Vazquez into the DH slot.
The Angels would claim Owens in a hot second. I know we're mostly over him here, but a SP with a legitimate out pitch (++ changeup!) can retain at least a sliver of prospect status for quite a while.Who gets dropped from the 40-man roster? Henry Owens looks to be the likely candidate.
That's easy enough, he can be their injury replacement for anyone who's already on the DL now and still will be then, like Marco Hernandez. It was my understanding that there were work around to get players called up after August 31 on the post season roster. If Brentz comes up and pops 5-6 homers this month they are going to have to find a way to get him on the roster.
Hector Velazquez or Kyle Martin.Who gets dropped from the 40-man roster? Henry Owens looks to be the likely candidate.
Velazquez has been VERY valuable to the Sox this season, both as a starter and a long man. I expect him up very soon.Hector Velazquez or Kyle Martin.
Regarding Elias - it's to "preserve" an option. He had to be called back up within 20 days of being optioned. He's just there for blow outs.Elias?
They really are desperate for a lefty to step up and inspire some confidence aren't they?
The bullpen has been a strength so far. Imagine if they hadn't lost Ross ((basically) and Thornburg for the entire season?
Days up.Little confused here trying to figure out whether adding Brentz to the 40/MLB roster has any LT implications, and if it's even worthy of note (some estimates I've seen claim to have us all but hugging the threshold line atm).
Does his rookie contract get pro-rated on days up, or do we get hit with a LT figure for the full 535k?
Give it time.... Brentz??? This something they have to figure out, they are too horrible against lefties to not see what they have there.
Marrero was optioned on the 24th, so he isn't eligible to return until tomorrow.
That, and the PawSox still kinda need some players to fill out the lineup in their final couple games.Marrero was optioned on the 24th, so he isn't eligible to return until tomorrow.
The way he's been gimping around he may need another DL stint anyway.Or they could just cut Brock Holt but I can't see that happening.
See the post 2 above yours, it's not that easy. When will we see Brentz?
If guys can be thrown onto the 60 day DL without anyone saying "boo" you could do this, but I bet there are issues with doing that in cases like this. The way he's been gimping around he may need another DL stint anyway.
I'd like to see Taylor come back up. I think there's a real case to be made that he's better than Workman, and in a general sense, more useful than a LOOGY like Scott.Lin getting added is a no-brainer.
Marrero not being called up is...odd.
Brentz isn't on the 40-man, though, so I understand that non-move.
I disagree about the relief pitchers, as well. When/if Smith is ready, he gets an audition. As for the rest of the drek, they aren't needed and won't be used.
I haven't really looked at it, either. But I think it would be ideal to have Brentz penciled in as the 4th OFer/CY replacement. The ability of Betts and Benintendi to play CF makes for a nice flexibility in the 4th and 5th OFers. The 5th OFer could then be a Holt/Lin/Nunez utility type. As we go through September, I'd rather make a spot for Brentz than all of the Boyer/Hembree/Martin/Maddox/Taylor/Martin ilk (did I get them all?).The other thing to consider with regard to the 60-day DL is that at the end of the season, all the players on that DL have to be added back to the 40-man roster for the winter. Of course there will be free agents and non-tenders to create room but there will also be Rule 5 eligibles to add (not to mention free agents to add).
I haven't thoroughly researched the 40-man roster and what kind of room they're looking at on it this winter, but it isn't as simple as just stashing a guy temporarily on the 60-day DL to avoid having to DFA someone.
Better than LesterI keep reading the title of this as including Elliott Maddox
