Ivey had 9 points on 12 shots, 2 assists and 6 TO's against a 15 seed. What did I miss, outside of one incredible shot?Ivey is an unbelievably great player.
They still have the Rose BowlConference representation left in the tournament (8 teams):
ACC: 3
AAC: 1
Big East: 1
SEC: 1
Big 12: 1
MAAC: 1
So no Pac 12, no Big 10 teams left. The Big 10 had nine teams, and none left after three rounds. The ACC had five teams, and three are left after three rounds.
Yeah I don’t want this game. It wouldn’t be good for either program long run.I don't know anybody in either fanbase that has ever been gung-ho about seeing Carolina play Duke in the tourney but if the one time it happens isn't for the title and on cable, it'll be strange.
Why would it be bad for both programs?Yeah I don’t want this game. It wouldn’t be good for either program long run.
But… it seems likely to happen.
I don't like the idea of one program having ultimate bragging rights over the other. It will always be the trump card. I think it's better when the next game in the rivalry is always the most important one. YMMV.Why would it be bad for both programs?
I would think at minimum, the winner gets a recruiting boost - though I am not sure if either needs it.
As a Carolina fan.. I can only imagine the whistle coach K and Duke would get in his final game in the finals of his last tourney. Why would it be bad for both programs?

So - 1 team winning would then create an fair imbalance in recruiting because of the trump card victory? Seems like winner would have huge gains?I don't like the idea of one program having ultimate bragging rights over the other. It will always be the trump card. The rarity of them playing in the tourney and one team winning would be the ultimate bragging rights.. especially since it would be for the championship.. right now Carolina has a bit of bragging rights since they beat Duke AT Duke in Coach K’s last home game.. a win in the finals would be the ultimate revenge. What’s interesting especially this year is that neither team is particularly strong especially as compared to the best of either team.. so if they were able to both make the finals it would be additionally crazy. So - 1 team winning would then create an fair imbalance in recruiting because of the trump card victory? But you think the long term rivalry with teams trading W/L would be damaged overall is seems to be what youre saying?
I am not disagreeing or agreeing, just trying to clarify / understand. New to this arena.
Im a new UNC faculty, I gotta understand this! (and my bro did grad school at Duke, so I need to smack him down).
I don't think it will have any impact on recruiting. Maybe for a very short period of time, but doubtful. For me it's more about the fans and the shit talking and all that.So - 1 team winning would then create an fair imbalance in recruiting because of the trump card victory? Seems like winner would have huge gains?

This, except it would be the semifinals, not the championship. 26 in 2011 (VCU 11, Butler 8, KY 4, UConn 3)I think 22 is the highest cumulative seeds in the final 4 so if Kansas loses there is a good shot to surpass that
Ahh.. I haven't had a bracket this year so I wasn't sure how things actually looked.. it did seem odd that they could meet in the finals. If Carolina takes care of business tomorrow I guess we'll have our rematch... and it would seem like a great chance for Duke to go to the championship game especially as a revenge scenario for the last game. This, except it would be the semifinals, not the championship.
