Cannon. Right before JB ripped off his TD run, was a 1st and 15.I seem to remember the Pats getting a penalty for a false start?
Yes, then a late delay of game on a fourth down punt, but that doesn't really count.I seem to remember the Pats getting a penalty for a false start?
Yes. Before the game I likened it to Denver last year, where they needed the D to step up and win them a game. They got 3 good quarters in Denver last year and it wasn't enough; they got 4 last night. Huge performance. The Texans never even really threatened to score. Collins was everywhere, preseason Flowers showed up in the regular season, and the downfield coverage was solid. It looked like they blitzed less and dropped more into coverage. The defense and special teams on a night the offense was clearly playing with one arm tied behind its collective back.
Yep. Three fumbles in the game, all recovered by the Pats.Is there a football god of fumble luck? Like an ugly step-cousin of BABIP?
Osweiler is terrible. I will probably still be pissed off 20 years from now that he hit the two biggest throws of his life on that go-ahead drive last year.54-6! I was nervous before the game but settled in as soon as I saw all those conservative runs called in the first quarter. Belichick trusted his rookie more than Houston trusted their $72M man.
Yeah my bad gave the Texans too much credit.54-6! I was nervous before the game but settled in as soon as I saw all those conservative runs called in the first quarter. Belichick trusted his rookie more than Houston trusted their $72M man.
Mini-game ball to Shaq Mason for playing pretty well with one hand for three weeks
LOL @ mini ball & deflated ball giveaways.Yeah, give a deflated ball to Roger.
Is it me or has Edelman been extra ornery this season? As in I'll knock the living crap out of DBs on pick routes and run blocks ornery.Edelman for that block on the Blount TD run
Great stuff. They really relied on the front four to take away with the run and pressure Osweiler without much help, and they were up to the task. Granted, Houston's OL is a little beat up, but I thought last night was easily the DL's best performance of the season.A couple notes on the defense:
- The Pats played in a 3 safety look almost the entire game. 68+ snaps for DMC, Chung, and Harmon
- Coleman didn't play a sap; Jones played about half the snaps
- The Pats basically played with 1.5 LBs. Collins went wire to wire, Freeny played about half the snaps, no other LB saw the field
Just an awesome effort and game plan in all 3 phases
Mitchell has 4 catches on the season, 2 of which were followed by broken tackles that led to big gains. He doesn't blow me away with speed but he seems good at breaking tackles.LOL @ mini ball & deflated ball giveaways.
My 2 mini-balls (wut?):
- Amendola: shocked he only had less than 15 snaps for the contributions he's making
- Mitchell: finally the player I thought Dobson could be -- fight for the ball & loved his run blocking
I guess it makes a bit more sense why Houston was so pig-headed about the run if they were coming out in base sets and being countered by dime packages. It makes what the rotating cast in the front 4 did even more impressive.A couple notes on the defense:

Amendola seems to be Brissett's main safety valve - felt like a lot of JB's longer throws on 3rd have been to him. Wonder if that's a function of them having practiced together more.LOL @ mini ball & deflated ball giveaways.

Many people, both here and on the TV, are referencing how little we heard JJ Watt's name and that is indeed true. But how often did we hear mention of Clowney or Mercilus?Player A Career 5.5 Sacks 39 Tackles
Player B Career 3 Sacks 33 Tackles
Player C Career 10.5 Sacks 191 Tackles
A= Clowney 6 Million on the cap
B= Malcolm Brown 1.735 cap hit
C= Collins 1.2 cap hit
I know Browns a DT and Collins is a LB while Clowney is a DE....but thats just awesome. Clowney is such a fraud. You have JJ Watt opposite you pulling double teams and you still suck. He was so highly touted. I admit I would have drafted him if I had the opportunity. Thank god we have BB. (and I know he didnt have the opportunity to screw up by drafting him).
I could have sworn that I saw McLellan on the field at linebacker for at least a couple plays in the first half.A couple notes on the defense:
- The Pats played in a 3 safety look almost the entire game. 68+ snaps for DMC, Chung, and Harmon

Probably not the right place, but here's Goodell's reaction after week 1.That was such an enjoyable win. It's got to be killing Goodell and his cronies in NYC.
true i was considering him more of an edge guyI could have sworn that I saw McLellan on the field at linebacker for at least a couple plays in the first half.
On JB7's run, Mitchell didn't give up and blocked his DB all the way until the TD. That must be the kind of playing-through-the-whistle play that BB loves.Amendola seems to be Brissett's main safety valve - felt like a lot of JB's longer throws on 3rd have been to him. I did see him out there, but he may have been lined up at DE before dropping into a zone.I could have sworn that I saw McLellan on the field at linebacker for at least a couple plays in the first half.
Nope, outside of a blowout. What, you don't think the Pats are gonna use JB once in a while even after TB is back?
I really hope that JG's early career arc is like Steve Young's. First 4 seasons in SF, he started 3/3/3/1 games because of injuries to Montana, but he played in 8/11/10/6 games, and was able to get ~80 passing attempts each season (and a 23-6 overall TD-int ratio in those 4 years). When he had to take over for Montana permanently in 1991 (in his age 30 season) he was ready.Nope, outside of a blowout.
Because JG, if healthy, will be backup, and JB won't get in. There's no reason to ever take Brady off field if game is in question.
Jerry Schuplinski. He was a coaching assistant for three years with NE but was promoted to Assistant QB Coach this season. Another one of those John Carroll University graduates (McDaniels, Caserio, Ziegler) in the Pats organization.Who is the Jerry or Gerry guy called out in pats post game? QB coach I'm assuming. It's after Brisset is given the game ball.
