Here's my best guess at the CURRENT 53-man roster, pre-draft.

Offense (24)
QB (2) - Jones, Zappe
RB (5) - Stevenson, Robinson, Strong, Harris, Montgomery
WR (5) - Thornton, JuJu, Bourne, Parker, Slater
TE (3) - Gesicki, Henry, Sokol
OL (9) - Brown, Strange, Andrews, Onwenu, Reiff, Anderson, Cajuste, Ferentz, McDermott

Defense (26)
DL (7) - Barmore, Davis, Guy, Wise, Ekuale, Godchaux, Roberts
LB/Edge (7) - Board, Bentley, Hall, Judon, McMillan, Uche, Wilson
CB (6) - Mills, Wade, JonJones, MJones, JackJones, Randle
S (6) - Peppers, Dugger, Phillips, Schooler, Davis, Bledsoe

Special Teams (3)
K (1) - Folk
P (1) - ??
LS (1) - Cardona

Obviously I'm not getting all these right but I'm close. Given that, which position group needs the most improvement? I say.... quarterback. But I don't see how they improve there during the draft without trading a ton of picks to move up. Don't see them doing that.

Overall, the roster is, I think, pretty solid. Remember they won 8 games (and could easily have won a handful more) with their roster last year and with godawful offensive "coaching". Adding BOB should change a LOT, and I even think the roster is improved. If this roster ^^ had a stud QB, they'd win 11 games minimum.

I think WR is a need. OL is a need. CB is a need. What else? How can they best improve this group?

Not sure you can put Cin above KC. Buff is in the top tier of the Conference but other than that I think the rest is pretty wide open.

In order of priority:
OL: The line got Mac Jones killed last year, they need at least one tackle, maybe two depending on Trent Brown who looks to be aging rapidly. Long term we need a successor to David Andrews.
TE: They don't have a tight end who can block, let alone one who can block and be a receiving threat. This is a deep TE class and I'd like to see the Pats double down and take a combo of Sam LaPorta/Luke Schoonmaker or something similar to help shore up the position.
CB: Feels like they need more depth as opposed to a true #1, wouldn't mind using the 14th pick if one of the top corners fell but still think OL is more of a need.
WR: Need a slot WR, think they're fine otherwise especially if BB lets Kendrick Bourne play.

@Rico Guapo BB wanted to go 12 but he bet on the wrong horses. If he doesn’t take at least 1 TE I’d be surprised and I hope he double dips.

WR (5) - Thornton, JuJu, Bourne, Parker, Slater
TE (3) - Gesicki, Henry, Sokol
So, regardless of what he is listed as, is Gesicki going to really be more of a WR than TE? From what I read, he really doesn't do much in the way of blocking and only rarely is lined up on the line. Where Henry is obviously a receiving TE, Gesicki seems more like a big WR. In that case, maybe Gesicki, and not so much Juju, is the Meyers replacement. Gesicki would obviously be a different kind of slot than what has generally thrived here (Welker, Amendola, Edelman). Teams will want to put DBs on Gesicki regardless of what he is called - if Gesicki is on the field with 2 WRs, Henry, and a back, aren't teams going to defend it like a 3 WR set rather than a 2 TE set?

If that's the case, then WR depth looks a little better and TE looks nearly empty.

Yep good points. I'm not really sure, of course, how the Pats view this situation. I think they just thought that Gesicki is a good football player who makes plays and was an improvement over what they had. No clue how they'll classify him. I do wonder, though, if you're right, whether they'd go after a TE or two in the draft.

They don’t have a good in-line blocker at TE. There are plenty of guys they could draft in the first 2-3 or maybe 4 rounds who could project to do it better than Henry. Gesicki is a garbage blocker and is really just a big WR.

I expect them to draft one of those. And, they will probably call Gesicki a TE but they will use him like a big WR, because that is what he is..

Henry was considered a competent blocker coming out of Arkansas. No guarantee that any TE in the draft outside of maybe Mayer and Washington will block better than HH.
