To me, the Celtics have had a higher standard than just going deep in the playoffs. If the Jays don’t win at least one title, how can that not be seen as a failure?
This a good question and i imagine what people think as failures will vary significantly. As one data point i haven’t viewed their last 5 years as a failure. Whether i would change my mind in 5 more years time if they are still without a title, i cannot say

I see the last three deep playoff runs as squandered opportunity for Banner 18.If the Jays play together for five more years and don’t win a title, I will be shocked, and I will consider it a failure. Tatum is a perennial first team all NBA and MVP candidate. Brown should be a perennial all NBA candidate, and both are coming into their prime with a ridiculous amount of playoff experience.

Folks were talking purgatory when Kyrie & Co exited. Last year was kind of a squander BUT IME gets pinned with a lot of that.

All signs point to Tatum getting his Super MAX extension next season, so the C's have 6-7 great years ahead of them. I'd also be shocked if they didn't win multiple titles over that time frame.

"Shocked" is pretty strong in a world in which KD has only won a title playing with Steph and Klay, and in which LeBron was lucky to win multiple with the Heat.

It's a combination of
1. Tatum developing into the best player in the NBA. His work ethic, style of play & body type will age extremely well
2. Brad's ability to pull rabbits from hats & his cold-hearted approach to roster building (surrounding JT with talent)
3. Roadblocks like Butler, Bron, Curry (vet superstars) aging out

It won't be easy BUT near future Celtics will be better than the Celtic teams of the last two seasons.

I'd be disappointed, but failure? I just think that's a crazy way to think of it when guys are playing at the very top level of the world. Entitlement it screams.

Would I like to see them win a title? Of course!! But, i have to say that having the Celtics be relevant contenders for the title, going deep into the playoffs every year is great. My formative years as a Celtic fan were miserable. I lived through the Pitino years the ML Carr years, when the team had nothing interesting going on at all other than to hope they could lose as many games as possiible. As much as people complain about them not living up to what we think is their potential, this Celtics team is (and has been - maybe other than Irving's last year in Boston) a great team to watch.

I agree and will add that watching them do it with so much home grown talent has enhanced the experience.
