Well, it sounds antiquated to me, like the Washington Senators or the Pittsburgh Steelers or any of those literal names that seek to describe a typical regional vocation. Why would Admiral invoke thoughts of segregation? It is a currently used rank in the Navy. I think it sucks as a team name but I don't understand why it would make you think of 1942 and segregation.
Now, the segregation thing was just me making a roundabout crack about how old it sounds. 'Admirals' = old-sounding = sports in the historical past = segregation. There's obviously no direct connection.
