Anytime you can put your season in Minshew’s hands while Taylor is standing on the sideline….
Was a terrific play call. Bad execution on both ends (bad throw, but still should’ve been caught). You’d expect high-school players to execute that throw and catch.

I didn’t think it was a bad throw. The DE was in the throwing lane so he had to throw it out to the right. I’m 35 now so to channel my dad, hit him in the hands. He throws it normal it gets batted down.

edit: eh, throw should’ve been better. Mixed up the direction the RB was going

Man, what a painful way to go into the offseason for the Colts. Indy fans are going to be arguing bad throw/poor hands all offseason. Tragic.

I don't feel bad at all. /Don Draper voice

yeah, i get the idea of... touch it gotta catch it, but guy had to completely stop the route and spin around to try to catch that, even getting hands on it is a good adjustment because that was WAY behind him and a bit low. Funny thing is... to catch it he probably has to go to the ground.... and then he might be short of the 1st down.

PIT gets in if either JAX or BUF loses. Buffalo probably has to win in light of PIT’s win earlier; oddly, if Buffalo wins they’re the 2 seed, but if they lose they’re out altogether unless JAX loses.
With Lawrence a GTD, a Jaguars loss is definitely on the table but it would be great theater if Bills needed a win on Sunday night to make it. I think it would potentially set up Tyreek return to KC too, if Miami loses.

It would’ve definitely been a first. His body was at the first and hands a yard short so momentum would’ve given him a couple yards.

Yeah, whether or not it would have been a first shouldn't even be a question.

The sicko in me had Brady/Welker flashbacks. Apologies to everyone else for bringing that to the surface.

Ball hits his hands at around the 11, his feet are around the 10, 1st down marker was around the 9. If he goes to ground he can probably barrell roll or dive, but... he's facing the wrong direction. That's really what makes it such a bad throw and tough catch. Ball is supposed to be laid out in front of him at the 9 so he can catch it in stride. Worst case right on him so he can turn at the 9 and catch it, instead it's between the 10/11 and tailing away from him and down. Brutally bad throw, missed it by 5-6 feet. My point wasn't that if he reels it in there he won't make it but more that it's a tough catch because he can't do what you would on say 3rd down and slide onto your knees to get your body in front of it, because then you're at the 11 on your knees and have to get up and gain 1.5-2 yards without getting touched.

AFC now pretty simple

If Jaguars lose to Titans, they're out, Bills and Steelers are in, and Bills-Dolphins game is just for the AFCE and No. 2 seed
If Jaguars win, then it's up to the Bills. Bills win, they win the AFCE and Steelers are out. Bills lose and they're out, Steelers are in

Catching up...

The combination of taking the full play clock on the 4th & 1 and then using a timeout was brutal. Ideally you don't need either of those, and preserve as much time as possible in the real case you fail the 4th down. I get making sure you have a good playcall overrides the absolute optimized clock managing in this instance, but you can only use one or the other (timeout early or let it ride) there in that case, not both.

I think receiver and Minshew share blame on the incompletion, but I'd put more on Minshew - really shitty pass with no defender near him.

Seems like every team now knows when to take an intentional safety, that was as obvious a time for it as any. If the punter had zig zagged a bit could have killed the whole clock, but I think they must only practice going to the corner. Whatever.

I come down on "equal blame". That pass should have been better. But it also should have been caught. The RB choked just as much as Gardner did.

Also, Taylor not being on the field on 4th down because of "the play sheet" (as Shane said) is the real error here.

The key play of the game and the Colts went to Tyler Goodson, a rookie, who has 6 catches this season and 19 total touches in his career.

That is poor usage.

Man, re-watching the highlights from this one and it's obvious to me that Stroud would be my pick of any of the QBs from the last 5 drafts. Burrow would be close but his injury history would be tough to pick over Stroud (edit: forgot about Hurts but I think I like Stroud more, personally.) He has great instincts, makes throws under pressure, and just makes tough throws look effortless. Seems like a great kid too.. I'm on board the Texans train this season.

Trevor Lawrence is active. I don’t know if he’ll ever live up to the hype, but he’s a warrior.

Will Levis inactive for Tennessee, reportedly due to a foot injury suffered last week. Ryan Tannehill will start for the Titans.

Anyone watching RedZone?

Falcons-Saints looks like a barnburner early.

Not sure Ridder is the answer.
The Falcons’ Week 1 starter isn’t on the current roster.

I feel bad for Arthur Smith, who has gotten decent results the past two seasons with a bottom-10 roster.
