Pats D holds Philly to 18 points
Pats D holds Miami (who has scored 106 points in two games otherwise) to just 24 points.
Pars D holds the Jets to 6 points down three top CBs and for most of the game, two top DTs

Pats D is really good.

The Pats' essential problem is that they constantly play not to lose instead of playing to win. Conservative to the point of self-defeating.
People in the game thread said we should kneel on it every play.

And basically they were right. The Jets had one drive all game and it was aided by the refs. Conservative was the right approach for this game.

Disagree, they were aggressive at big moments today, but just failed. Mac made some dubious decisions and throws on 3rd and shorts.

Their last two possessions they threw the ball looking for first downs instead of just running on third down. Neither worked but that’s not “playing not to lose”.

I don't think they can "compete" with the Cardinals, Texans, etc.

A full on tank for an elite QB won't happen as long as Bill is here trying to pass Shula
The only one way to truly tank in the NFL is to gut the roster and hires a terrible coach, then most of the time you just waste the good QB

So, had that tip been corralled by Cobb, where would that have ranked in worst losses in Boston sports history? Ignoring the lowish stakes of the game ... #1, right?

he two hand slammed it. It had some dudes shoulder pads then bouncing towards Cobb, which is just bad luck.
And despite Romo, that is largely uncatchable after
Softest 2 hand "slam" I have ever seen.

He patted it down like he was concerned the ball might get hurt.

That was an insanely bad defense play by Duggar and we lucked out.

You can certainly tank but what happens if you select the next Zach Wilson/Trey Lance/Russell etc etc

Never.ever.tank
Also... We're 3 years into people saying that we can't evaluate the QB because the offense is mediocre and defense is great, if that's true what can you do with a team that is terrible on both sides.. Many busts do so because of bad rosters and coaches.... The very thing needed to tank

Miami has almost 700 yards of offense, lol.

Phins clearly talented and broncos clearly a rebuild but if you’re the broncos ownership, don’t you have to have some buyers remorse wrt Payton?

Nfl teams don’t give up 70 unless there’s a major effort issue

I didn’t build the roster. I’m not saying they should intentionally tank games. I’m just saying I’m not going To be upset when they lose.
Fair. Just cannot see actively rooting for it. And this is not @ you but there is definitely a type of sports fan who roots for their teams to lose. We have a few amongst us.

Yeah it would have been in the same category as, but maybe a little bit lower than, the Miami Miracle and the Jakobi-Chandler Jones Pass games.
But the question was "Boston sports history" ... which sort of brings 1986 into play
