I know a guy who is a mean and annoying drunk. Short. Always getting into scraps or instigating shit. He’s an ASU guy. He’s in a bar with some guys — friends of mine — in Mexico. Cabo, Rocky Point, something. Pete is there with a bunch of guys back when he coached at USC. My guy starts yelling all sorts of vile shit at Pete’s table, making everyone uncomfortable. The other guys with the guy (my friends ) get him to shut up, but every few minutes he can’t help himself.

After a while, Pete comes over with a bottle of tequila and drinks with them for like an hour. Pete gets the guy’s address and sends him a USC jersey.
That’s a fucking awesome story. I feel validated for loving him

I hadn’t paid attention to the disclosure about possible taint infections in the Jardiance ad before. Yuck.
/OT

in a universe of increasingly dumb pharma ads of Ordinary People celebrating because they have some drug - against a somber backdrop of ludicrous disclaimers- this one just does my head in. I have irrational urges to have Freddy Kruger or Rambo jump in from the next channel over and start offing people.

Update from the stadium, a TSwift ad was just soundly booed.

Also, Negan is here somewhere.
There was not a single TS mention in the in-stadium media on Sunday night, although everyone was obviously waiting for it. The celebrities-in-attendance video was comically small bore (DJ Smoove?)

Re: theNFL being a bad product: the disconnect between the balls-to-the-wall spectacle and the integrity of the sports contest bring played out between the white lines is what gets me. The relentless barrage of noise and extraneous crap, it’s as if the leagueis a pretext for fighter jet flyovers and marketing and the actual game is an afterthought:

The NFL should just buy the XFL/USFL and use it as a developmental league. The offensive line play in the league is pretty marginal for a lot of teams these days.
Some one here had a theory that D-line is getting the superior athletes since the rules changes etc slanted so heavily in favor of encouraging the passing game. Sack-artists are the glamor boys on D, but pass blocking is reactive backpedaling (oversimplified) and the ancient pleasures of playing O-line, of blowing holes open for a RB, is just not a point of emphasis anymore.

I wonder if basic knowledge of life expectancy and diabetes and heart disease etc etc is limiting the number of people keen to blow through their absolute ceiling weight to mid 300s. The college kids should have access to doctors that aren’t just shills for their teams now. This isn’t the lean(er at least ) muscle that a guy like Wise adds on the d line. No idea what LT recruits are concerned about now but their parents don’t want them gone by 50s

I don't know, there's a lot of high school and college guys playing OL who aren't athletic enough to play any other sport at a high level. My son's a lacrosse player, and there are a number of football dual sport kids on his team. But the lax starters are the RBs, WRs, LBs and DBs. There's a couple of OLmen who play lax, and they basically never see the field unless its garbage time.

I imagine it's still an attractive position for beefy dudes who like to hit.
