If only he was in charge this past winter when Schwarber was a FA...Cashman is certainly making deals like he believes the Yankees need to become more left handed.
Also making deals like they are a contender. They may be. But they’ve been out scored through 100+ games.Cashman is certainly making deals like he believes the Yankees need to become more left handed.
Even though Rizzo is a rental, I think all of these moves are primarily about 2022. I will explain in the next post. Also making deals like they are a contender. They may be. But they’ve been out scored through 100+ games.
Hey, at least he doesn't beat his partners.Another guy who won't get vaccinated, not thrilled about that part.
What does contender mean? Let me put it this way, the sox and Yankees are equally close to the wild card. Also making deals like they are a contender. They may be. But they’ve been out scored through 100+ games.
Kind of feels like 08. Win the deadline, get pudge...miss the playoffs. This is gonna be great when Boone still manages the team to a 3rd place finish out of the Wild Card.
To me it means a legit shot at a title. You know you are likely to get to the postseason and you are looking to get over the hump. Making deals to try to eke into the second wild card seems like a stretch. Like when the Expos traded for Colon that one year. What does contender mean? Let me put it this way, the sox and Yankees are equally close to the wild card.
Nah, Jack Curry talked about Voit being traded on Twitter early today, and as a YES employee, he always knows what's actually happening.Or they keep Voit because Cashman LOVES logjams.
Again, even though Rizzo is a rental, I think everything Cashman has done this week is essentially geared towards 2022 and beyond. To me it means a legit shot at a title. That’s fair. I am just trying to picture the reaction if a 53-48 Red Sox team with a negative run differential was making these moves. I think we’d be mocking them.Again, even though Rizzo is a rental, I think everything Cashman has done this week is essentially geared towards 2022 and beyond.
Sounds right. DJ at 1B and Gleyber at 2B next year. Now NY will trade Voit by tomorrow, and I bet get a solid return for the MLB HR leader last year who is under team control for another 3 seasons.
2022: Rizzo leaves as a FA, NY signs one of the big SSs, DJ goes to 1st.
Seems like another steal for the Yankees. The Cubs send the Yankees Rizzo for no salary and they get back two lottery tickets? This is getting irritating.Alcantara is super talented, still in the FCL. Alexander Vizcaino is already on the 40 man but didn't pitch for the first couple months this season and hasn't been able to get past an inning or two in high A.
Everything needs to be put in context, people love to have knee-jerk opinions about things they don't know much about. Cashman realizes that things need to change, so he has started that process. That’s fair. I am just trying to picture the reaction if a 53-48 Red Sox team with a negative run differential was making these moves. I think we’d be mocking them.
They are about $3M under. How much are the Yankees under the cap? That is two good prospects to pay for two months of Rizzo. They must really want the money.
Yeah, they are both good prospects although Alcantara is very far away and Vizcaino has essentially missed the whole year. His changeup is already world-class, though, one of the young SPs they chose to protect over Whitlock.According to Fangraphs February rankings, they are the #7 (Alcantara) and #11 (Vizcaino) prospects in the system. Considering the Yankees have a strong farm system, if those rankings are close to accurate, that's why they gave NY the money. (Not sure what people think of FG rankings compared to others)

These are funny posts back to back. Not meaning to call out either poster. Prospects are always fucking crapshoots.Seems like another steal for the Yankees. The Cubs send the Yankees Rizzo for no salary and they get back two lottery tickets? This is getting irritating.
I don't think they can really trade Frazier because of his currently unknown health status.Voit and Schmidt for Berrios. Get it done!
Also, if Clint Frazier makes it through this trade deadline, part of me will die.
I don't think the calculus changes given how close the WC spot is.Do Yankee followers think they would have done all this had they been swept in Tampa?
Yes, I really think it is mostly about 2022 and beyond. The better question is would they have done all this if Whitlock had been terrible this year.Do Yankee followers think they would have done all this had they been swept in Tampa?
Good point.Yes, I really think it is mostly about 2022 and beyond. The better question is would they have done all this if Whitlock had been terrible this year.
Yes. Baseball people, unlike fans, do not make decisions based on a few days’ worth of data. As Crow responded, the WC race is the driving force for Cashman.Do Yankee followers think they would have done all this had they been swept in Tampa?
What is Voit's value? I genuinely have no idea what he's worth to a team. I would presume he's not valuable to a contender this year, so a team building for next year would do really well to get Voit. Marlins? Twins? Cleveland? So where is Voit going to go? Current need? Or prospects to replace some of what was spent today? Or both?
If both, maybe an RP with a prospect attached. What I'm really curious about is if Cashman already had a framework of a deal for Voit before pulling the trigger on Rizzo. Something that speaks to current need. Not that an RP wouldn't be a current need, but maybe something bigger than that.
