The Mac pick was tragic and shameful in it's predictability.
A lot of that is place and time. Random 1 pm game it is bad but not as big of a deal. It is not as bad as Chandler Jones play last year that decided a game. It’s worse than this Mac pass, though. I didn’t even think that was the worst Mac pass all year. The Butt Fumble was an all time top 10 memorable NFL disaster.
This. The Butt Fumble was an all time top 10 memorable NFL disaster.
The Mac Jones pick was a bad interception by a bad player that we will all forget by next week. There are probably 50 equally dumb interceptions thrown every year. It is arguably worse in terms of complete ineptitude, but it has none of the features that make the butt fumble funny or enduring. Namely, it had no running into a butt.
But how many by tennis players? There are shit tons of terrible interceptions thrown year after year.
Because he is deathly afraid of getting hit, which could very well be one of the top 3 worst traits for a QB to have. Why does Mac keep throwing, not just off his back foot, but with all his momentum going backwards? T-Ball players have better throwing mechanics.

JINX. I owe you a soda.Because he is deathly afraid of getting hit, which could very well be one of the top 3 worst traits for a QB to have.
Has the added advantage of ending the "should we really draft a QB with that high pick?" debate.butt fumble
I applaud Mac and his interest in getting us a higher draft pick
Incorrect, it was the night game. The Butt Fumble occurred early in the late afternoon Thanksgiving game, which is probably one of the biggest viewing windows of the year. The Mac throw was bad, but people who don’t know anything about football know the BF.
This is what I was alluding to earlier. If that’s a Sunday 1pm it does not have the same reputationIncorrect, it was the night game.
Agree with this, and it also probably doesn’t if Sanchize doesnt fumble with a return for a TD. If he just bounces to the ground for a loss of 3 on the play it would already be forgotten. This is what I was alluding to earlier. If that’s a Sunday 1pm it does not have the same reputation
Isn't the very next play of the game another fumble for another score? No one really remembers that one. It doesn't have a funny name.Agree with this, and it also probably doesn’t if Sanchize doesnt fumble with a return for a TD. Kickoff return fumbled right into Edelman’s hands for a TDIsn't the very next play of the game another fumble for another score? No one really remembers that one. It doesn't have a funny name.
The butt fumble was funny because it was a butt fumble.
For sure. Even Jakobi’s lateral catastrophe last season, which some folks were adamant would be long remembered as the worst play of all time, isn’t referenced at all outside of Pats fan circles (and I assume Raiders fan circles).I was in Berlin last year and caught some of the Dolphins Bills game on German TV. Watching a game in German was an interesting experience. Lots of words I completely didn't understand, interspersed with the occasional football phrase like "linebacker" and "offside." As some may recall, at the end of the game, the Dolphins were trying to run out the clock, but had to to punt out of their own end zone, and the punt hit a blocker in the butt, meaning that it only went like 15 yards, which almost cost the Dolphins the game. The German announcers were speaking their gibberish when all of a sudden, I heard "Mark Sanchez" and "butt fumble."
I doubt that a German announcer will reference this interception with English words several years from now.
+14th and 2 spot job by the refs (staying in the Colt universe)
This right here.I voted Butt Fumble, but it's really the Colts fake punt
I’m still shocked it doesn’t get brought up more. I think the butt fumble was on thanksgiving and that must have added to its virality? For sure. Even Jakobi’s lateral catastrophe last season, which some folks were adamant would be long remembered as the worst play of all time, isn’t referenced at all outside of Pats fan circles (and I assume Raiders fan circles).
What sticks in the ol’ collective consciousness is a weird dynamic.
Well, also that its a butt fumble. It involves butts, so it's just going to be funny.I’m still shocked it doesn’t get brought up more. I think the butt fumble was on thanksgiving and that must have added to its virality?
Butts are funny, it’s true. If jakobi had managed to involve an erogenous zone, it’d be more top of mind nationwide.Well, also that its a butt fumble. It involves butts, so it's just going to be funny.
We don’t discuss the fake punt play without the Tecmo Bowl version.I voted Butt Fumble, but it's really the Colts fake punt
Yes, and also Pat's breakdown. We don’t discuss the fake punt play without the Tecmo Bowl version.

Holy shit, at the 3-second mark on the pick clip, there's an Indy DB at the 11 who almost tips the ball and probably saves the game for the Pats. By that point, Gesicki is about to cross into the goal line. How can a guy who's maybe FIFTY FEET away from the eventual target (and by the eye test, not 7'7") come that close to tipping a lofted pass? At first I thought it slipped out of Mac's hands, but it appears his mechanics were just that terrible.
It really was absolute magic.Happy Anniversary to the Butt Fumble.
