They would still announce that two penalties occurred and offset one another. The face mask was never mentioned.DrewDawg said:
Yeah. I think the guy threw the flag but was going to ask for help and the ref made the call too quickly.
However, that still means when he got help someone told him to pick up flag. Perhaps due to the facemask by Pettigrew.

Which is a significant difference, as they would replay third down.

I'm with you. There's a time and place to throw a fit for effect and that was such a time. To follow it up with an attempt to draw them off rather than nail the coffin shut despite the confusing events and then a 10-yard punt should be a firing offense. Passion is often an annoyance (e.g., the most recent 49er coach), but it was warranted there.crystalline said:
Yeah, I think he blew it by not forcing the issue at the time. Saying something after the fact doesn't accomplish anything - they're not going to change the call, the Lions still lose, he'd probably be fined the week after the Super Bowl when no one cares, and he's not going to produce a productive change in officiating by protesting one call.
and he probably would have been right but for his punter fucking upE5 Yaz said:
Said he thought about going for it there, but didn't because they were still ahead. Figured a punt would pin the Cowboys deep and the defense would hold

If the defense would hold, not punting is the better call. That's a dumb answer and a dumb coaching decision in a key moment.

A raging controversy. An unwatchable game. An interesting game for a half that turned into a blowout during the second half. and an uninteresting game earlier today defined "blah".ifmanis5 said:So the NFL got all the results they wanted from this weekend.

Make some room David Stern. A fitting conclusion to this season, though we have a month left.Deathofthebambino said:http://deadspin.com/nfl-execs-pissed-that-head-of-officiating-seen-on-cowbo-1618048217
Earlier in the week, TMZ released a video of Jerry Jones's son Stephen partying with several people, including what appears to be Dean Blandino, the NFL's head of officiating. According to at least one person Jason La Canfora spoke to in the league, that is "definitely" him in the blue, skipping out of a Dallas Cowboys party bus.
On first blush, the video is not all that interesting. It's just Stephen Jones and his entourage hanging out with several women on a bus with a bunch of Cowboys logos on it on the Sunset Strip. NFL executives are livid, however, because Blandino is looking so chummy with a team executive and owner's son.
Right, but but the Ravens winning also made next weekend Indy vs Papa Johns, which is a huge storyline, and Ravens vs Pats is likely a bigger story than Pitts vs Denver, so that worked out well for NFL and their scribes.McBride11 said:Ravens > Steelers? But in that case they don't get Luck/Manning which is what they'd prefer.McBride11 said:Ravens > Steelers? I think the Steelers have a much larger fan base (especially nationally).

To me the DPI in the Bengals game was far worse and didn't get called. Would have changed that entire game.E5 Yaz said:
As it played out, yes. But there's no way of knowing what happens had the penalty been called

What's equally egregious is the Detroit player not getting called for grabbing the DB's facemask on that play...he had it for a couple yards at least...which probably pulled the DB off balance creating the DPI in hte first place.
Fine. How often are penalties broadcast throughout the entire stadium and then overturned?Greg29fan said:Refs miss or let offensive holding calls go? Wow that never happens. Never.
