Bills had the 2nd best DVOA in 2014, but it was mostly due to their pass defense, which ranked atop the league (they "only" ranked #12 on run defense.) PFF numbers were just as good, showing top 10 numbers on pass rush, pass coverage, and run defense.
That was a defense led by the old BB disciple Jim Schwartz, who was replaced by the old Rex disciple Dennis Thurman. I think Rex & Thurman blitz less and elect to flood the short to medium zones with extra defenders. That's an old recipe for success against Brady -- as long as enough pass rush could be generated without an extra rusher.
The consensus is that Pats will exploit the Bills LB corp (Manny Lawson, Preston Brown, and Nigel Bradham), who are adjusting to new 3-4 looks. I think Kiko Alonso will really be missed here.
Brady got the ball out around 1.8 seconds vs. Steelers in game. If he can continue that, I think Pats will have decent success against the Buffalo LB & secondary.
"Don't nobody likes the Patriots," Dareus said Tuesday. "Let's just be honest about it now. Put it out there."
[Aaron] Williams pointed to the Patriots' attitude as the reason for his feelings toward them.
"Just the way they carry themselves on the field and stuff," he said. "All the stuff that has happened to me in the past with some of the players has definitely gone through the roof for me. That's a reason it's personal for me and they're our rival. It's the history. So it's not just personal. It's the Buffalo Bills' history."
