Porzingis seems like more than the Knicks could have hoped. Immediate production and lots of projection for future improvement. Not sure if Jackson can thread the needle and grab the free agents next year that will allow the Knicks to truly compete with Porzingis on the upswing and Anthony inevitably heading down (tho he's obviously better this year than last). Sure increases their chances of doing so if the Knicks are semi-competitive this year and seen as being on the rise.
In any case, Porzingis as well as complementary players like Grant and Galloway are big step up from the bad contracts that Jackson has managed to dump.
