Great great hire. He will win immediately there. Playing in the PAC 12, in LA with his offense??? Every kid out west will want to play there. Watch out Trojans!!! U-C-L-A, fight fight fight.
He's only 54.He’s 64 years old and has openly said he doesn’t like to recruit. At Oregon he kept Bellotti’s offense and entire staff and is inheriting a prostyle offense.
I won’t be surprised if he has success, but won’t be surprised if he doesn’t either.
It’s like I’m standing outside Sun Devil Stadium and rumors all week were his decision was awaiting outcome of the ASU vs UofA matchup.I can always count on Hambone to see the rest of the PAC-12 through ASU cheerleader costume colored glasses
Pirate is in the running at Tennessee and Nebraska.Pirate vs Kelly YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
No, please not a dead end job ....Pirate is in the running at Tennessee and Nebraska.
A Texas A&M beat writer says Kevin Sumlin will be the ASU coach.Todd Graham out at Arizona State. Not sure where they will turn. Maybe Jeff Tedford returns to the PAC 12 after leading Fresno to an 8-3 record this year and MWC championship game appearance. True he was less than successful at Cal at the end but overall had a great run and this season at Fresno shows he can still coach. They could do a lot worse.
Talk about a downgrade job wide. Money wise probably not so much.Jimbo Fisher is rumored to be headed to Texas A&M. He will coach the Monroe game but not the bowl game if they win. 5 years at $7.5 million/yr.
I've talked to a few UT friends and they're irate about this hire. Between his so so record and the Penn State connections they're ready to burn all of their Vols gear.Backtrack begins
On the ESPN Campus convo podcast, Ivan Maisel said Mullin didn't get along with longtime former AD Jeremy Foley when they were both at UF, so that's why he was passed over in favor of Muschamp and McElwain. UF got a new AD last year.Dan Mullen hired as head coach in Gainesville
(He was there as OC during the Leak and Tebow pair of NCAA titles)
Well, Schiano to Tennessee is off, so they're probably a lot happier now.I've talked to a few UT friends and they're irate about this hire. Between his so so record and the Penn State connections they're ready to burn all of their Vols gear.
You nailed it. Delusional fan base. They’ve got their heart set on a guy that hasn’t coached in 10 years. Clay Travis is going to spend all week patting himself on the back as if he has any clue what he’s talking about. What a ridiculous situation that is with Schiano. The UT fans have such a distorted view of themselves and their program. It hasn't been relevant in 15 years. They have 1 top 10 finish this century. I think a lot of the backlash is not connected to his past at Penn State but that they are pissed that Gruden is not the coach. That was never going to happen. Tennessee is not a destination job and no top coaches are going to consider it in part because of the unrealistic expectations.
doesn't make it not true. There is absolutely nothing to the Sandusky allegations - McQueary said that Bradley told him that he heard Schiano knew about the abuse - double hearsay about a rumor is about as unreliable as you get.

It was clearly just an excuse to try to bully the school because the delusional and insane fans wants someone else they will never hire.
You win civil child abuse and neglect cases over double hearsay, with that type of story?Do the rules of evidence not apply in your state? It’s unfathomable this would be sufficient in the eyes of some to convict Schiano, especially since McQueary wasn’t even at Penn State when Schiano was and Bradley denied ever making that statement. I personally don’t like anything Penn State or have any feelings for Schiano, but this is crazy.doesn't make it not true.
Knowing what we know about Sandusky, is it that hard to imagine that Schiano saw something in the locker room that would make him pale? And if so, that he would tell Bradley? And that Bradley would remember it?
Is it hearsay? Of course. But this isn't a criminal trial and just because something is hearsay doesn't make it true. I prosecute child abuse and neglect cases (non criminal court) and I win cases based on exactly those kinds of statements all the time.
I have a hard time believing that Schiano, as an assistant coach at the time under Sandusky, didn't know about what was happening. I have no idea what the delusions of the Tennessee fanbase are or whether or not this is a smoke screen, but so far as I'm concerned, there should be an outcry over Schiano. I'm glad Tennessee seems to be willing to do what Republicans and Democrats seem unable to do.
Nick Saban makes people crazy. Not only by setting an impossibly high bar but also by being, literally, the savior. What a ridiculous situation that is with Schiano. That's why it's going to be hard going forward for other SEC schools to get top candidates to go to their program. Why go to a place where 10-2 and 9-3 isn't good enough and in 4 years you're fired because of no national title?Nick Saban makes people crazy. Not only by setting an impossibly high bar but also by being, literally, the savior.
More than a few SEC people probably remember well the disaster that was Alabama under Mike Shula. They probably figure that if Alabama can recover from that, we too can become relevant to the national title hunt and beat Alabama every once in a while.
Good luck with that, but that's what driving the expectations -- all we need is the next Saban.
Is Tee Martin ready? If he is, he should have been at the top of the list to begin with.Joel KlattVerified account @joelklatt 39m39 minutes ago
Tennessee is now having to focus on coaches with "Tennessee ties" because no one else will touch that job with a ten foot pole...You were led by emotional hypocrites with a severe lack of football knowledge that incited an internet mob...you made your bed, now go to sleep!
A non-disclosure agreement won't mean anything if Schiano sues. NDAs don't prevent someone from having his deposition taken, and a fired employee tends to speak like a fired employee once he gets under oath.Michael McCannVerified account @McCannSportsLaw 2h2 hours ago

John Currie would be a key witness if Greg Schiano sues Tennessee. It would likely be better for UT if Currie is employed by UT in the event Schiano sues. Currie could have much to tell & share. If UT fires Currie, the school better negotiate a non-disclosure agreement with him.
Shouldn't they hire Manning first and let him get them close to but not all the way to a national championship for a few years before going to Tee Martin? To piggyback, Bruce Feldman of SI is saying Tee Martin has a lot of support for that reason
No sex scandals there.Shouldn't they hire Manning first and let him get them close to but not all the way to a national championship for a few years before going to Tee Martin?
This is terrific. Joel Klatt is an articulate man and has become my favorite analyst in the past year or two. Too bad he's paired with Gus Johnson.Joel KlattVerified account @joelklatt 39m39 minutes ago

Saban and Alabama have done to the SEC what BB and Brady have done to the AFC East. Teams will keep wrecking themselves trying to find the guy(s) to beat them.Nick Saban makes people crazy. Not only by setting an impossibly high bar but also by being, literally, the savior.

I’ve said for years that Simmons blew it with the “Ewing Theory”. It should have been the Manning Theory from day 1. Team loses 4 year starter/savior/#1 pick, and with a freshman QB and same rest of team wins the national championship the next year.Shouldn't they hire Manning first and let him get them close to but not all the way to a national championship for a few years before going to Tee Martin?
