Namestikov is better than Spooner. And younger.Feels like a similar package than what the Bruins gave up for the Nash rental.
Namesntikov is having a much better season than Spooner. 20 goals, 24 assists in 62 games.Feels like a similar package than what the Bruins gave up for the Nash rental.
Who would have said no to Donato, Spooner, Lindgren, 1st, 2nd for McDonough and Miller?Yeah, Namestnikov is quite a bit better than Spooner. Hajek is probably higher up the prospect chain than Lindgren was for the B's. Brett Howden is also fairly highly touted and could crack the Rangers roster next year. And the extra pick is a 2nd, not a 7th. And there's no Belesky going to the Rangers.
Two problems:Who would have said no to Donato, Spooner, Lindgren, 1st, 2nd for McDonough and Miller?
The Rangers and maybe the NHL because I imagine it violates the cap.Who would have said no to Donato, Spooner, Lindgren, 1st, 2nd for McDonough and Miller?
I'm sure they could have worked something out with Vegas for Belesky. Two problems:
One is that the Bruins would still have been stuck with Beleskey's full salary. Second is that your prospect list does not nearly match what Tampa gave up.
So it's a pretty similar deal if you change 3 or 4 things then? Also, the Rangers took Belesky the first time, I'm sure we could have gotten them to take him with the other deal by adding the 7th back.
I like the fact that they seem to be aware that running everyone out there for 82 games might not be ideal. With the playoffs essentially clinched, every single player on the roster should be getting at least a game or two off in March, especially on back-to-backs.Sweeney’s post-deadline press conference:

- Lot of deals for depth. Mostly insurance against injury and rookies hitting the wall. Mentioned Carlo sitting last night, these moves give them a chance to give guys breathers if they feel they need them. Some of the rookies may, others may not. Wingels can play 2, maybe 3 positions. Harped on how they weren’t able to withstand the injury bug last year in the Ottawa series, hopes they’re better positioned for this season.
Wonder if they offered someone like DeBrusk or Heinen along with Carlo for McDonagh and could've gotten Nemenstiknov along with him.FWIW, apparently they were really aggressive on McDonagh, per Conroy. I’d be curious to know if it was today or before the Nash deal.
Carlo was definitely in the discussion. I don’t believe he was held out last night to rest or get a better perspective from the press box.Wonder if they offered someone like DeBrusk or Heinen along with Carlo for McDonagh and could've gotten Nemenstiknov along with him.
Not sure how they could have done that. Doubtful Tampa would have traded Namenstiknov to Boston just to facilitate the B's getting McDonagh from the Rangers.Wonder if they offered someone like DeBrusk or Heinen along with Carlo for McDonagh and could've gotten Nemenstiknov along with him.
Crap, I meant Miller. Not sure how they could have done that. Doubtful Tampa would have traded Namenstiknov to Boston just to facilitate the B's getting McDonagh from the Rangers.
