Big news because of the name and the history (and the elite jokes) but I doubt he makes much of a difference there.Flacco to Broncos
Dead money if cut in 2020 would be $7.8 million, 2021 would be $3.9 million.Brian Phillips of SB Nation/Pats Pulpit says if a team wanted to covert AB's salary/roster bonus to signing bonus the 2019 cap hit would be as low as $7.3 million. The cap hits in 20 and 21 would be $15 and $16 million.
I would do it but so would a bunch of other teams. If OBJ ever were to hit the trade market, I think the Pats would easily get outbid, if they were even interested.Jay Glazer is predicting that it will be a very active trade market this offseason and the one player he predicts will get traded is Odell Beckham Jr. If he gets traded after June 1, the Giants only have to take $4 million in dead space in 2019($12 million in 2020) and they'd save $17 million against their 2019 cap. His 5-year extension kicks in this year, but the team acquiring him doesn't have to worry about the $20 million signing bonus. His contract would then be 5 years, $77.25 million.
If Gronk happens to retire, that would open up a lot of cap space and also a hole for a playmaker. Would you want OBJ at $15.45 million a year AAV?

Then he needs the TB12 MethodWhat is the most the Patriots have allocated to a WR historically? I can't think of an expensive (10mm+) one. They gave Moss 3 years, 27 million. I can't see them trading for OBJ, or any other really expensive WR, outside of maybe AJ Green for a deal they could then extend him to spread it out over multiple years.
BTW - OBJ has played a total of 16 games the last two years.
$9 MM a year on the 2008 cap ($116 MM) is almost 8%, the equivalent of almost $15 MM on the 2019 cap (estimated $190 MM). And Moss was already 30. Welker played on the $9.5 MM franchise tag in 2012. The Pats talked extension with Cooks, and while they didn't work something out, you have to think those talks started in the $10MM+ range. So I think the Patriots would got $10MM+ for the right player in the right situation, which doesn't mean they'd do it for OBJ. They tend to prefer spreading out money among multiple pass-catchers.What is the most the Patriots have allocated to a WR historically? I can't think of an expensive (10mm+) one. I don't think they can convert the roster bonus. I think they would keep him if they could, and they still might, but he's a free agent and he'll want a big pay day.Why have they soured on him? From a distance he seems like one of their foundational players.
I think they still like him but his play has dropped off a bit since that 2016 season where he was nuts. Last year, he didn’t have an INT (7 previous 2 years), had only 4 PDs (13 in 2016), 1 FF, and 0 FR. Not quite 2002 Lawyer Milloy but they probably figure someone is going big on him and are unlikely to meet the price. Why have they soured on him? Ralph Vacchiano is a huge Giants homer and would look at it like that. Collins tweeted back at Peter Schwartz saying anything left in his locker he does not need. That would imply he doesn't plan on coming back to the locker room. The report was refuted by the Giants beat writer about 40 minutes later.

Tony Pauline: Sources tell me the Cincinnati Bengals are hoping to trade receiver John Ross and will field offers during the combine. We'll have more tonight during our podcast.
Ross has 2 years left on his rookie deal plus his 5th year option.
The worst part is it would actually cost them cap space to do it unless they waited until after June 1 to make the deal. Post June 1, they'd save $2M on the 2019 cap and push the rest into 2020.Who would trade anything for him? He was a high pick that has 200 yards over two years. He's still owed like $9m. I can't imagine a team even trading a conditional 7th for him. On 58 targets he caught 21 passes for 210 yards. This guy stinks.
If you looked, you'd see he's played in 16 games in 2 years so his big knock is staying on the field. All but 2 targets came this season and he had 7 TDs in 21 catches. He has elite speed(4.22 40 at the combine) and has kick/punt return experience going back to Washington which I added a video of below. If Patterson becomes too expensive, he may be a good option to plug into the gadget role that CP played in this year. McDaniels can find ways to use Ross like he did with Patterson and given he's only owed base salaries of $2.02 million and $2.79 million(Cincinnati already paid him his $10.5 million signing bonus) he's cheap.Who would trade anything for him? 21 catches is 20 more catches than anyone on the Pats' current WR depth chart has, other than Edelman.Who would trade anything for him? He was a high pick that has 200 yards over two years. If that's the criteria they can find guys with a lot more catches for much cheaper. John Ross looks like a poor man's Phillip Dorsett.21 catches is 20 more catches than anyone on the Pats' current WR depth chart has, other than Edelman.
They would owe him between $2 and $3 million a year for 2 years. Are you really finding somebody better cheaper? If that's the criteria they can find guys with a lot more catches for much cheaper. John Ross looks like a poor man's Phillip Dorsett.
Be hard to find someone worse. They would owe him between $2 and $3 million a year for 2 years. Are you really finding somebody better cheaper?
Obviously he's not coming in to be at the top of the depth chart. Did you think Patterson had a good year? Because he had 21 catches this year. I find it hard to believe that Ross couldn't come in and do most of what Patterson could do(besides run the ball between the tackles). He could run some routes down the field while also getting him the ball on bubble screens and jet sweeps.Be hard to find someone worse.
Could John Ross fill in at RB in a pinch because of injuries? Can he return kicks? How is he with the ball in his hands? I know he's fast, but as Brandin Cooks taught us, that doesn't mean you are a good ball carrier, so not sure about the jet sweeps. And to answer the question, no I don't think Patterson had a good season and would be disappointed with that kind of production from any receiver they brought in. Thing is I'm not sure Ross could give you even what Patterson did.Obviously he's not coming in to be at the top of the depth chart. Did you think Patterson had a good year? I answered all these questions already. Yes, he can run the ball but on end arounds and sweeps. Yes, he can return kicks. If you ask me, the Patriots got pretty good value from Patterson. 56 total touches for 475 yards and 3 TDs plus 30 yards per return with 1 TD.Could John Ross fill in at RB in a pinch because of injuries?
