Harold Reynolds: "Javier Baez is the most entertaining player in all of baseball". Given his level of analysis + his history of sexual harassment, I can never figure out how he's still employed.
He may be entertaining, but his career OBP of .303 sucks. I also love his 131/15 K/W ratio.

So does Chaim think they're just fine as is or is he cooking with about six stoves right now? Because I don't really see anything in between with today's lack of noise from him
If we weren't in conversation with Detroit for a guy like Schoop, the kind of guy that would basically be the cromulent 1st baseman we all think we need, I think it has to mean they're planning on Schwarber playing 1st (at least some of the time).

Otherwise it makes no sense that we aren't involved for a guy like that (and the admittedly meager reporting around Schoop suggests there hasn't been much inquiry).

Baez just got the news..MLB Network just showed him walking off the field while he was doing some running. He was wearing some kind of....sports bra. He got his wish, he wanted to play with Lindor.

Given the costs involved with some of the guys moved today, particularly ones that would have looked good in a Sox uniform, I would think "doesn't have the bankroll to compete" fits pretty well in between those two extremes.

Those are biometric trackers. Basically have become commonplace in most sports now.

I'm wondering if some of these teams are going for it so much because they believe that there's going to be a long work stoppage next season, and possibly no season at all.

Are the Red Sox only getting Schwarber and that’s it? No pitchers? A real first baseman? What the hell is going on around here? (Lombardi voice)

1--Deadline is 4 pm
2--The prices are crazy
3--Sox farm isn't rebuilt yet

I’d be satisfied with a good glove 1b like Eyechart at this point. If the plan is for Schwarber to play first, I don’t want Buckner redux in the late innings. I really felt Rizzo would have been a perfect fit here.
I have a deep seated feeling that the MFY's blocked the Sox from getting Rizzo.

I think if we do anything else, it will be a last minute deal that we probably won't find out about it until a few minutes after 4PM. The Red Sox front office seems to keep their mouths shut and not leak, and I think we'll go right the limit before pulling the trigger on anything, if we even do.

Miami (oh, Miami!)
The whole trade deadline thing this year feels a bit frantic.

These teams have just under 60 games remaining. (Some of which are likely double headers.)

So that's 12-ish extra starts from your SP acquisitions.

NY (for example) is 8 games behind two teams, with TOR a game behind them. Sure, they're 3.5 games out of a WC berth, but TOR and SEA are right there with them.

If Kris Bryant is on the block, I doubt we are getting him. Other teams have more to offer. Don't think high. Think under the radar.

Think that extra WC spot is definitely playing a role here. Lots of teams can think of themselves as playoff contenders without much squinting.

True. But having more to offer doesn't mean you want to meet the price. The Red Sox have the chips to get Bryant if they wanted. But they are weighing long-term impact of doing so and likely won't meet that price.

I pray to god we add a legit 1b and an arm, but if you look at these trades in their entirety, the Schwarber deal looks like the biggest buy steal of the deadline
