I remember just a couple of years ago when the Sox' system was really bereft of talent. Look at it now. Amazing.
Is Blaze really that far away? He should be starting the year in Salem.Tough to argue with this list. I'd probably flip Mayer and Casas considering Casas could be up as early as next year and Mayer is still probably 2 years away. But I get it, Mayer plays a premium position and has a higher ceiling. Blaze is probably a little high too considering how far away he is and his lack of a position. But again I get it considering his power is plus plus.
Because it's an internal list and the quality falls off after Bello, even if they are deep. Why is Downs still so high?
Cool. TyBecause it's an internal list and the quality falls off after Bello, even if they are deep.
Gilberto isn't top 10 but he could easily be 6th or 7th. Him not being in the top 10 is totally acceptable too. Mata hasn't pitched in 2 years and is 8th.
Plus Downs had a strange AFL, though I'm not sure if that played into the ratings. Him jumping over AA was probably considered too.
Sox prospects still has him at 5.
Seabold would have made the list but he pitched with Worcester last night.Winckowski higher that Seabold is a little surprising, no? Feels like a big drop off after the top three and while the positional talent is very encouraging, pitching leaves a bit to be desired at the point.
I hope I don't come off as a jerk here... but what are you talking about? I'm just confused by your phrasing here on the "gaps" but also Seabold pitching Worcester "last night"....Seabold would have made the list but he pitched with Worcester last night.
I respect Speier’s work but the issue with ordinal rankings is they drive a perception that there is a significant gap between “on the list” and “off the list.” In the case of the Red Sox, there likely is a greater gap between four and five or six and seven than between 10 and 12 or, for that matter, nine and 13.
I have no clue about Seabold pitching but they just mean there's a bigger drop off in talent between Duran and Bello than there is Jordan and Groome. Downs is 6th, Gilberto is "off the list." The difference between the 2 is miniscule and mostly preference.I hope I don't come off as a jerk here... but what are you talking about? This is why I don’t think. It can only hurt the ball club.I hope I don't come off as a jerk here... but what are you talking about? I'm just confused by your phrasing here on the "gaps" but also Seabold pitching Worcester "last night"....
It's a lot easier to put up a top ten list for each team than trying to explain why you put up a top 7 to top 15 list for each team, depending on talent tiers. Although Fangraphs does do things like that sometimes.I have no clue about Seabold pitching but they just mean there's a bigger drop off in talent between Duran and Bello than there is Jordan and Groome. Downs is 6th, Gilberto is "off the list." The difference between the 2 is miniscule and mostly preference.
Sox Prospect, the first 6 guys are the same as BAs list. They also have Jordan and Groome, but unlike BA, they have Seabold at 8 and Gilberto at 7 instead of Mata 11th and Winckowski 14th.
On most team list, players 6-15 or so are of similar value. They should probably be bunched up in a tier rather than individually ranked.
