Not watching but this seems like a good showing from Texas. A dominant win puts them in the best possible position. After that it's up to how the other games shake out.
Yeah it's something that obviously the defense is milking. But it puts the officials in a tough spot. Your only option is to drop the substitution signal and give the offense a free 1st down when it's 4th/5...which would probably cause even more gnashing of teeth. But that's how you get the defense to get their subs in promptly.I agree that they should have been ready to snap it or call timeout, but that was still a bullshit manipulation of the substitution rules. Ref didn’t let them snap it until there was 3 seconds left on the play clock.
He’s so fast. They’re all so fast. The Rb room is the best in the country. And so, so young. To the house!
Curious if they could give a time limit. Texas was set with 17 seconds and the sub forced a delay of game. 17 seconds is a long, long time.Yeah it's something that obviously the defense is milking. Couldn’t you just pause the play clock when the offense is finished substituting and lined up? If the offense tries to substitute again after that, it could be an automatic delay of game. That rule is ripe for manipulationYeah it's something that obviously the defense is milking. But it puts the officials in a tough spot. Agree. I don’t like being able to drag ass getting a player on the field in that situation. Something the powers that be should really look at and revise.I agree that they should have been ready to snap it or call timeout, but that was still a bullshit manipulation of the substitution rules. I came here to ask the same thing. Stupid.Crap. Why is Worthy in there with this score?
No it's too long I agree. You can call a delay of game on the defense too for "not substituting promptly". But I think it's easier to just remove the substitution protection, the defense will rapidly get their shit together.Curious if they could give a time limit. Margin of victory may very well be a factor with the playoff committee. Only reason they would have him in there, I suspect.Crap. Why is Worthy in there with this score?
I’m listening to Craig Way and he says he put weight on the ankle.Crap. Why is Worthy in there with this score?
There's currently no provision in NCAA to pause a play clock, and if it is ever stopped it must be reset to either 25 or 40 seconds (unlike the NFL).Couldn’t you just pause the play clock when the offense is finished substituting and lined up? Pause them both. It’s not about giving the offense time to figure things out. The clock wouldn’t stop until the offense has finished subbing and are lined up.There's currently no provision in NCAA to pause a play clock, and if it is ever stopped it must be reset to either 25 or 40 seconds (unlike the NFL).
But even if you could, there are timekeeping shenanigans the other way too. Are you gonna stop the game clock along with the play clock? If so, isn't that a free mini-timeout whenever the offense subs to figure out their plays? If not, couldn't the offense sub late, and while the play clock is stopped, continue to milk the game clock if they are ahead?
In a game where teams sub every play that's another 25-30 minutes of game length. You are also basically giving the defense unlimited time to substitute. Hey, the game clock and play clock are paused, they have no reason to move it along.Pause them both. It’s not about giving the offense time to figure things out. The clock wouldn’t stop until the offense has finished subbing and are lined up.
(Right at the point where the ref was standing there not letting Texas snap the ball today.)
If the offense wants to try to wait as long as they can to run people on the field and lined up, go for it but you run the risk of that taking too long on your end.
If we're choosing teams, I'm more of a Bama fan. I want the Rose Bowl.I’m the world’s biggest Louisville fan tonight.
I want nothing to do with Penix vs Texas’ safeties. If we're choosing teams, I'm more of a Bama fan. I want the Rose Bowl.
It’s actually funny how much happier Herbie sounds doing this game than last night
Just to circle back on this, having watched and listened to Herbie both Thursday night and last night and properly compared his work closely, I think the biggest reason for this is actually Chris Fowler vs. Al Michaels. I've always loved Michaels, but he's at the "too cool for school" stage of his career - nothing excites him any more, and Herbie (no doubt somewhat in awe of Michaels) would probably feel very awkward sounding excitable next to him. Fowler is incredibly enthusiastic, and between him and the college crowds and bands, etc., Herbie has much more reason to sound enthusiastic. Maybe he really is more excited about the college game than the NFL, but I think that's a much less important factor in how he sounds on the air than his play-by-play partners and other external circumstances.Herbie sounds so much more excited tonight than he does on Thursday nights.
In my head we're playing Michigan in that scenario which I think is a fantastic matchup for us.I want nothing to do with Penix vs Texas’ safeties.
Because the Big 12 commissioner is a joke. Why is the Undertaker on the stage?
As an unaffiliated huge college football fan, I love Louisville's chances tonightI’m the world’s biggest Louisville fan tonight.
I love how Boise fired their coach and the team was like “hey let’s play good football now!”Mountain West is entertaining. I hope UNLV hangs in at least to make a watchable second half.
Well the team they beat will have beaten a better team than the team they beat. So it all makes perfect sense. So Texas playoff chances are halved if the team that also that has 1 loss and they beat wins their conference championship? That’s rough
Still rough, teams can only play the opponents on their schedule.Well the team they beat will have beaten a better team than the team they beat. So it all makes perfect sense.
Well I was kidding. None of it makes much sense. Last year of it, though. Next year teams that don’t really deserve to be in will be in so none of this stuff.Still rough, teams can only play the opponents on their schedule.
Texas has a better win than anything Georgia has this season (if they lose this game). If Alabama wins an ugly 17-14 or so game and Florida State somehow wins with its 3rd string QB you can argue no SEC team should get in.Well the team they beat will have beaten a better team than the team they beat. lol, thought you were serious. At the same time you are right. Its hard to say any of these team “don’t” deserve to be in the playoff.Well I was kidding. None of it makes much sense. Last year of it, though. Next year teams that don’t really deserve to be in will be in so none of this stuff.
If Georgia and FSU both lose and the committee puts in Michigan, Washington, Alabama and Georgia and stiffs Texas that's pure BS.Texas has a better win than anything Georgia has this season (if they lose this game). The committee would sooner put Georgia and Alabama in though over keeping both out so that’s a moot argument.
I think that’s the most likely scenario. No way they don’t put the SEC champion in.If Georgia and FSU both lose and the committee puts in Michigan, Washington, Alabama and Georgia and stiffs Texas that's pure BS.
I'm no Texas fan but they 100% deserve to go in that scenario.
I can’t pretend it’s obvious. Cleanest is is my guys somehow win with the QB situation and you get 4 undefeated teams. If Georgia and FSU both lose and the committee puts in Michigan, Washington, Alabama and Georgia and stiffs Texas that's pure BS.
I'm no Texas fan but they 100% deserve to go in that scenario.
I can understand the SEC champion, but my scenario leaves out Texas in favor of Georgia, which is totally unfair, Texas won the conference championship game and Georgia lost itlI think that’s the most likely scenario. No way they don’t put the SEC champion in.
I want FSU in there, just gut out a win tonight, no style points, just get it done.I can’t pretend it’s obvious. Cleanest is is my guys somehow win with the QB situation and you get 4 undefeated teams.
If Bama wins and FSU loses.

Washington
Texas/Georgia (no right/satisfactory answer)
