This is how I feel. You just have to be a physical specimen to play QB in the league now. Allen, Mahomes, Lamar, etc. all these guys make plays with their legs and made it mostly through the season without injury. The pocket passers and the small guys have to play perfectly to be effective and not be maimed because the defenders are ridiculous athletes. The league can make all the rules biased to the protection of QBs, unless they make it flag football, QBs will eventually get hit or tackled outside the box.It is absolutely amazing to me that a team sees how Mac and Tua struggled with crappy teams around them and says "let's draft the next "physically average" guy in that line of QBs, and trade away our best WR and a shit ton of draft capital to do it, after we've traded away our all-world RB."
It's not a great position to be in but you definitely pay Tua. He's effective in that offense, just had a healthy year and they are on the upswing as a team. I don't think you mess with that. Invest in the Oline, keep working on the defense. This is how I feel. You just have to be a physical specimen to play QB in the league now. Think of the decision Miami has to make about paying Tua. Will he last? Is he worth it? Is it a matter of time before he is injured again?
The pick became Shaun Ellis, IIRC.It also wasn’t a top 3 pick he traded for BB either.
why?If they do move on, I wouldn't mind Vrabel. (Without any compensation, of course.)
After a series of trades but the initial pick was number 16. Also a draft where the Jets had 4 first round picks and got Ellis, John Abraham, Pennington and Anthony Becht. The pick became Shaun Ellis, IIRC.
i don’t want Vrabel but I think the attraction to him comes from fans who want the current defense without Bill (because of GM/offense). Same as Mayo except Vrabel has head coaching experience (as underwhelming as it is)why?
I ask this seriously. Other than him having played here I have no idea why anyone would want him. He's been in the worst division in football and he's been on a downward trajectory every year after year 2, he's constantly fighting with his GMs, and he has literally nothing to hang his hat on, they had one nice little playoff run off a 9-7 season, then the next two years shit the bed at home in the first round, then fell apart. His coaching resume is less impressive than Bill O'Brien's, he doesn't have some scheme rep to lean on, his whole thing is just "leader of men" nonsense and it hasn't seemed to work.
Using that same logic, why would anyone want Bill Belichick? Because he has the Brady years to hang his hat on?why?

Vrabel is a strong coach, and outperformed at least my expectations, but has already shown he has the same struggle with offense as his mentor.i don’t want Vrabel but I think the attraction to him comes from fans who want the current defense without Bill (because of GM/offense). Why not Mayo, because he's never been.a head coach before? And he did pretty good when Tannehill was healthy. Better than Miami did I believe. He seemed to find a way to work with the strengths and weaknesses of his players and found some success. Would much rather him than Mayo or Josh. I could be talked into some hotshot OC though.
That’s my biggest knock on Mayo. He also has never called the defense before and he hasn’t coached anywhere else besides under Bill. Why not Mayo, because he's never been.a head coach before?
Huh? If they make a "trade" it's going to be to add a pick, not move up one spot, imoCould trading Bill and the 3rd overall pick to Washington all the Pars to move up to 2nd overall?

A top defensive coordinator now available:
Sources say the #Giants and DC Don “Wink” Martindale are parting ways.
Martindale interviewed for HC jobs in the past, and he could get more looks, as well.

Who knows, but doing so has convinced @Dogman that Belichick definitely is staying on the jobWhy are people talking about Caserio? He spent years being stuck under the Jack Easterby dysfunction and he finally gets a QB and a decent coach … and he’s going to leave? Why would he do that?
Not sure Slowick has a “great track record” with young QB’s. We can credit him for getting good results with Stroud but how much he had to do with Purdy is unknown. My #1 wish list in the "other than Bill cat"
Nick Caserio VP of Football operations/GM
Bobby Slowik HC
Caserio has 20yrs of success in various roles with NE and is still young enough to be here for 20 more.
Slowik is even younger and has a great track record with young QBs which the next HC is going to need.
More likely than not one or both flame out but if they hit you could have your next 10-15yrs covered. Much prefer to shoot for upside than bringing in some retreads.
I am convinced. Especially is Caserio is part of the transition of BB to the next chapter.Who knows, but doing so has convinced @Dogman that Belichick definitely is staying on the job
Slowik might be a talented offensive mind but we have no idea how he'd be as a manager of a whole team. Gives me early Josh McD to Denver vibes. I'd let him develop a bit more.My #1 wish list in the "other than Bill cat"

The first part isn't true. Duron Harmon spilled the beans years ago:That’s my biggest knock on Mayo. He also has never called the defense before and he hasn’t coached anywhere else besides under Bill.
A guy who gets rid of the ball fast with something on it is always worth it.It's not a great position to be in but you definitely pay Tua. Mostly because I have no idea how much of the success of the defense should be attributed to him. Is it him, or is it Steve, or is it Bill? Can he do it without Steve and Bill? Why not Mayo, because he's never been.a head coach before?
To me Tua only checks one of those boxes, though. I still think his arm strength is limiting to certain areas of the field and were it not for his superb anticipation my guess is we'd see some Mac Jones-ian INTs weekly. Physically he's very lacking. I'd pay him because he's a good enough starter, but I don't envision him ever being a guy that maximizes the talent around him. Put Josh Allen on the Dolphins and they'd score 600 points.A guy who gets rid of the ball fast with something on it is always worth it.

They fired a couple of his assistants and he resigned in protest. Certainly feels like Daboll tried to shift blame and Wink told him to stuff it.Ian Rapoport

I agree 100% --- which is why I was half-expecting DP to get fired.Boy Jax really collapsed. 8-3, then went 1-5 down the stretch. I know it coincided with Lawrence being banged up, but they have a lousy Tennessee team the last game of the year and they can't manage to win it? Rough.
They need new blood on the defensive side, the secondary in particularly has been weak, not very physical. I'm ok with this changeBoy Jax really collapsed. 8-3, then went 1-5 down the stretch. One of whom was Press Taylor, his OC this year.Interesting, Pederson got canned in Philly after refusing to shitcan certain coaches Roseman identified, so I’m inclined to think that he genuinely thinks a change is necessary.
Can you go into more detail? I'm curious about the new test. The Wonderlic was bullshit. To be fair, the league as a whole considers this new cognitive test much more effective than the previous Wonderlic that was used. And Stroud finished a VERY DISTANT third among the top 3 QBs. I would tend to look at this situation more as a success for the Texans to see through the noise, than failure by the Panthers (they already have a lot of other failures to answer for).
What I heard on a podcast prior to last year’s draft is that it tries to map to decision making and not general intelligence like the wonderlic. Young and Purdy* supposed to have aced it, Stroud not so good. Can you go into more detail? I'm curious about the new test. The Wonderlic was bullshit.

Thanks, fellas.https://www.s2cognition.com/
It's probably mostly nonsense too, but they got a big boost when it came out that Purdy crushed it when PUrdy-mania was at it's peak/
Edit- though I think part of it is the founders say it's more complicated than just a test, it is supposed to identify areas and help you improve I think?
Yeah the gist I got was it was a decision-making type test, could just be a brand new style of BS but remains to be seen. This podcast got into it, with the host (Pablo Torre) taking the test himself. FWIW the seemingly book-smart Harvard grad Pablo did not do too well, so this does not appear to be a straight intelligence test. Can you go into more detail? I'm curious about the new test. https://footballscoop.com/news/new-orleans-saints-reportedly-considering-adding-jon-gruden-to-staffThe New Orleans Saints are reportedly considering adding former Raiders and Bucs head coach Jon Gruden to Dennis Allen's staff, according to a report from Jeff Duncan of Nola.com.
Gruden spent time with the Saints ahead of their game at Tampa Bay on Dec. 31, including a Saturday night dinner with team leadership, per the report.
Isn't this basically what they do 20-50 times every Saturday? Why would they need a simulator? What they really would need is something that is timed and game like. As mentioned above, almost like a Madden VR, can you quickly evaluate the defenses and make the right read of who to throw to? Doesn’t seem like rocket science, and given the millions that teams are investing in these guys, there should be a market for it. Pocket presence would be pretty hard to test, I think - that’s a tough one.
