Except he'll play.Ty Montgomery replacement, more or less.
oh Ty played, his constant screwups on ST were quite memorableExcept he'll play.
Better be around 1.5mil per year. His last contract with Washington was 4yr/4.9mil, or 1.2mil per year, and I think he's worse now, and definitely slower. This is a depth pickup along the lines of Ty Montgomery, guy who can catch on third down if need be, etc. The Pats gave him 2/3.6 and that was an overpay.Depends on money...can catch the ball though.
Rushed for 1000 yards a few years back.
Lol. Sure.oh Ty played, his constant screwups on ST were quite memorable
You're going to be diappointed, I bet. My guess is he'll get far more than that. Perhaps double the AAV. Gibson was misused in Washington and is still above average as a tackle-breaker.Better be around 1.5mil per year. https://www.behindthesteelcurtain.com/2024/3/2/24076844/antonio-gibson-steelers-free-agency-profile-team-fit-player-history-commanders-statsWashington Running Back Antonio Gibson is one of those players that just is just so frustrating to watch on tape. While Gibson can produce explosive plays of more than twenty yards due to his speed he can outrun several receivers. Too often he tries to bounce plays outside even when it's seemingly designed for him to run inside. When he does that he gets himself into trouble on the field, and when he comes to the sidelines. But, occasionally being able to exploit the defense for a huge explosive play does have its advantages, especially for an offense predicted to be as conservative as the Steelers.
If that's the case, maybe he can still play WR. That's what he was in college, and was at the time of the draft. You're going to be diappointed, I bet. My guess is he'll get far more than that. Perhaps double the AAV. Gibson was misused in Washington and is still above average as a tackle-breaker.
Commanders were kind of a shitshow. He's only gonna be 26.I've always liked Gibson, but it was concerning that he basically disappeared in the Commanders offense last season.
That's true, and admittedly I didn't watch almost any Commanders football last year, but with Bieniemy there I was expecting them to figure out how to use Gibson.Commanders were kind of a shitshow. He's only gonna be 26.
Dynamic, but mistake prone is his rep. A non BB guy as they come in a way!On a more serious note... Gibson is pretty good, good passcatcher, intermittent balls security issues, but nice change of pace. not great for blocking, but a solid player for that role.
At the end of the day, it depends on the cash. That's true, and admittedly I didn't watch almost any Commanders football last year, but with Bieniemy there I was expecting them to figure out how to use Gibson.
In the link above, you can see all of his "explosive plays from 2023." Don't worry, it's not long. If you fast forward the replay of the first explosive play, the second and final one is pretty quick. He's returned 35 kickoffs in the last two years with only a few sizable returns.
A third down back that can't protect the QB sounds worrisomegood pass catcher ... not great for blocking
I may be wrong on that BTW. I remembered him as a bad passblocker which he was when he started and cost him 3rd down snaps to McKissic among others, but PFF had him as a very good passblocker last year, so he might have improved.A third down back that can't protect the QB sounds worrisome
Then you find situations to put him in that might not require that. Play to the player's strengths. Gibson can flex out wide. Use motion. Isolate him.A third down back that can't protect the QB sounds worrisome
all I've seen is 3 year deal (which in the NFL means it's really 2 years)We got the sweet contract details on Cousins already, but no one has the Gibson ones?
AMERICA WANTS TO KNOW!!!
That looks promising for the theory that he improved his blocking the last year or so.
Per Kyed, he's graded well the last 2 years, just 8 total pressures. That looks promising for the theory that he improved his blocking the last year or so.
He’s only 26 so I am really fine with this deal. Honestly think he might have been misused in Washington which is a terrible run franchise. That seems a bit hefty. He's clearly more than Ty Montgomery.
EDIT: Ah, only $5.3 guaranteed.
He was de-emphasized because he can’t hold onto the football. 12 fumbles on 814 touchesHe’s only 26 so I am really fine with this deal. Honestly think he might have been misused in Washington which is a terrible run franchise.
his fumble numbers are interesting...Jeez I hate players that fumble. Not sure how being dynamic is helpful if he keeps putting the ball on the ground at the rate shown a few posts up.
