The championship blue balls thing is real. Once a team breaks the seal they have that swagger, that ability. When you're really good but haven't won, you're Payton Manning before he won a Super Bowl. Nuggets are the Brady Pats, Celtics are still the Colts.

Am I crazy or was that not a bad look? I mean the actual shot wasn’t close at all but it seemed like a decent look
thought it wasn’t that bad a look but he wasn’t set—his feet were off and that made it pretty tough shot

If the Jays don’t play better than whatever this was, they won’t be getting to the finals. Fortunately, that is highly unlikely to happen.
WTF are you talking about? Like what the actual fuck? They have a down game against one of the best teams in the league and it's highly unlikely that they'll play better than that? WHAT? This place goes absolutely crazy every time the Celtics lose or have a bad game.

I thought they actually executed really, really well down the stretch and just didn’t make some open shots. Shit happens. They didn’t turn the ball over, they didn’t take bad shots, they just didn’t hit their open looks. Still not sure about Joe’s ATO plays but they still have a lot of time to work on it.

He should have driven into the defender's body. Guy was draped all over him. That fadeaway had no chance. I don't know what Tatum's end game numbers are but he takes some really crappy shots.

And why does it have to go through him all the time at the end? They've got five guys who can score.
He's missed four quarter ending buzzer beaters in the last week alone. He has to do better. Has to.

Tatum 1 on 4 drive with 17 seconds left, then that fade away...good grief

The JAYs were terrible & they still had a shot to win a game

Not sure why they went away from KP in the post after Q1. They still lack offensive discipline

Too many weak takes in the last half of the fourth quarter

Murray and Jokic with 69 points on 43 shots.

Tatum and Brown with 35 points on 43 shots

He clearly said it's high unlikely they'll play worse than that.

I read it as they’re unlikely to play as poorly as they did tonight most nights.

Think he's saying it's unlikely they don't play better. As in: they will likely play better.

Perk with a really salient take-Mazzulla doesn’t get them easy buckets. JT/JB with 5 FTA.

KP seemed a little timid/passive in the second half, though he got screwed on the foul when he grabbed the big offensive rebound.

Only 2 turnovers tonight. Anyone who thinks they’re the same team they’ve always been isn’t watching the games. They got beat, didn’t beat themselves. Last year and the year before when it got close and late they constantly beat themselves.

Hell, Jokic himself was a loser you definitely couldn’t win a title with until last spring.

Tatum takes significantly more FTA per game than he did with Ime or Brad's last season. He's 8th in the league.

Some of that is because he's stronger and he gets a better whistle but that seems like the usual junk analysis from Perk.

Tatum and Brown were taking it to the basket plenty. Joe can’t force the officials to blow the whistle.

The possession where Jaylen missed both free throws, then missed a wide open three, then White missed an open 3, was the killer, but it's right there with the five missed shots possession, etc.

Had 12 OReb compared to their 10; 2 TO to their 9; took 14 foul shots to their 13; took 89 shots to their 81; had 21 assists to their 20; Nuggets didn't have a single steal.

Sometimes you lose a close game even though you did everything right. Tatum hits that fallaway all the time.

Got to give Denver’s defense some credit. They played Brown and Tatum very well. Couple that with the fact that the shots weren’t falling in the second half they had nothing offensively. Can someone tell me what CJM is drawing up with these plays at the end of the game? These ISO’s shots don’t and haven’t worked for them ever.

This is a great point that shouldn’t get lost among all the teeth-grinding here.

Tough second-guess, but I didn’t like the TO at 4.9. I think they were going to get a decent look in the flow, as Jrue was shaking Jokic.

Nope, they just missed their shots, and they had GREAT looks all night. It happens.

I know NBA stars are filled with self-belief, but Jaylen's decision to attempt a 3-pointer moments after missing two free throws struck me as perhaps ill-advised.

There is no play, it’s just get Tatum the ball. I don’t like it, but it just looks like something we need to accept.

I did like his second timeout, that possession was a mess.

Joe can’t win no matter what he does at the end of the game. If they don’t score after no TO there he’s getting killed for that here.

Yup. This was not a game to be pissed off about. They got beat by a real good team and two great players. It was pretty obvious this was going to be a 1 possession last possession nail biter.

T Wolves aren’t a good team?
Without Conley and Gobert? I guess they are still good sure but the Celtics barely squeaked by with a ton of help from the refs.

edit: this isn’t a sky is falling situation but the team is trending the wrong way and struggling against good teams.

It’s a long season. Do you think the other top teams don’t lose games, or win games with opposing players out, or get good whistles sometimes?

The record isn’t a fluke.

Edit: Also what 128 said.

6-4 in the last 10.

Losses to every good team they have played. Things are not trending well.
IND is a good team too. UT has been playing pretty well lately.

Glad the home record thing is off the table. Its a silly distraction. They lost a one possession game to the defending champs. If they play better they can beat them. Maybe they won't but they have time to work on it.
Agree with this. I was thinking that if they won like 35 in a row, they'd want to go for thr record and play guys who'd otherwise be sitting. So hopefully that's off the table.

I feel like this should get reposted every time we play a 1 possession game.
There have been ~1100 possessions in the NBA over the last 20 seasons that started with 10+ seconds remaining in a tie game where the team with the ball can hold for the last shot. The FG% on shots in the final 2 seconds of these possessions is ~25%.
https://darrylblackport.com/posts/2020-09-16-nba-final-possession-shots/

That wasn’t the exact situation, but you get the idea. Final shots usually look bad. Defenses lock in, especially after time outs. You’re playing to the clock. ISOs are usually your best bet, especially if you’ve got a decent matchup like Tatum did.

The mythical ATO that gets someone a wide open look doesn’t exist. Otherwise you’d see every team running it.

Also, their schedule has been insane. I don’t ever remember a Celtics team playing a schedule this brutal over the first half of the season.
