You are correct but don’t you think they have enough talent that they should not fall to pieces when Tatum sits?
I do, but I also think Jaylen cannot have an offense run through him and am not sure we’ll ever be able to adjust to have a non-Tatum offense that keeps him in the secondary role he is actually good at.

I think it's true they're not running a lot of stuff cuz lots of new guys to integrate but also it's easy to overstate how much any team runs actual actions th se days. it's mostly improv off pick n roll
I do t think you’re wrong but with the actual talent the Celtics have I think we should have a lot more movement that forces more mismatches of very talented offensive players in space. We do players like Porzingis and Holliday a disservice when we confine them to kick out 3 point shooters. We can help Tatum by activating those guys more and having less help available

Man I have been trying to figure out a way to make this point while not knowing how to word it and this is perfect way to describe how I feel about it. It's no knock on JB, the team just needs to put him in the best role for him and the team to succeed

they should have more movement. they're near the top in iso possessions. I think that'll come down as they gel and I'm not too worried, they have the third or second best offense at this point by efficiency

Just because it’s been a topic of discussion recently.

+19 in the 19 minutes he played, and -10 in the 5 minutes he sat.

It’s pretty flukey at this point, but it’s definitely hilarious, even with single game +/- being worthless.

Here is how I feel. When I watch these games I am never impressed by what the team does that is outside of guys being awesome at basketball. Contrast it with Brad when he got here. I was impressed a lot because that talent was bad but he was maximizing it.

But when it counts good teams have a defender Tatum can’t shake or they just double him early. We have seen all of this before. You can’t just stand with 5 guys watching the ball all the time with an occasional on ball screen
I’m more on your side of this than others seem to be.

In general, I don’t have nearly the rose colored glasses that others do for Tatum around here. I think he’s 100% a top 6 player but a ton of the rhetoric around here seems to imply that he’s the best player in the NBA and I just don’t think he’s at that level.

I haven’t watched the game but I read this thread before looking at the box score. Shocking to say but it’s not close to what I would have guessed reading this thread

It’s definitely nit picking on my part and grading on the “final four in the playoffs” curve. They’re clearly very good and will shoot their way through lots of opponents running just like they are. But when the very best arrive they need to have more and I think what they try to do offensively is too limited and so 3 dependent that they end up vulnerable

I agree with this 100%. I am watching these games through that lens as well.

Zinger wears 8, Kemba wore 8. Is that an all time height differential for the same number on the same team?

I don’t think there’s any doubt that the offense bogs down/looks aimless at times, but I feel like that predates Brad’s move to the front office. Taking a shit roster and winning more regular season games than expected is different than executing in the final couple rounds of the playoffs.

I think it was game 3 of the 2017 ECF that was the most hapless, uninventive offensive performance I recall against any team that didn’t feature LeBron. It’s not new.

I like the way their offense has evolved this game. They were chucking too many quick threes with little ball movement early on, the shots weren't falling, and now the ball is moving around a little more and they're penetrating and scoring more easily (which should open up some easy threes).

I’m biggest Tatum fanboy there is an I have the same concerns.

Also, agreed with the sentiment that they fuck around and will still win most games by 15+

I am one of the bigger Celtics skeptics on the board. The way they approached the OT against Minnesota was the same bullshit as the last six years close and late, but now they have two or three more people who can theoretically ISO. It was ugly. But maybe people could save the complaints for games where it’s actually relevant. They are doing exactly what they need to do against mediocrity.

I said it last night, they’re going to blitz most teams in the regular season on talent alone. They need to use the tough games over the next 5 months to figure out enough offense to score when shooting variance is against them.

This must have been what it was like to watch the 1983-1984 Edmonton Oilers. Without the ice. And with different rules. Whatever. You know what I mean.
