For all the talk of our depth, it’s all about Tatum. He plays like he’s supposed to, we are easily the best team in the league.

Haliburton rose to the occasion, JT didn’t.

And we just can’t get past the egregious turnovers.

I can’t believe he’s making big 4th quarter plays on a good team. He looked so slow in Boston laterally and he looks fine now. Big credit to him for finishing his way
He just needed an opportunity to play through his mistakes. He wasn't going to get it in Boston.

KP is out, this isn't our full squad.

But the # of "big games" we seem to lose continues to be troubling.
Another big game gag job out of this group. They’re so much more talented than this Indy team even without Porzingas. This group just doesn’t have it.

These two teams were not equally motivated. Kind of annoying the announcers are acting like this stupid single elimination tournament means anything.

I agree but I thought a lot of his problems may have been just physical and now he’s guarding Tatum full court and fine. Again really big credit to him he clearly worked on his game

Nah, Tatum and Brown were excellent. White was very good. Hauser fine.

Jrue and Al and everyone else were awful.

Tatum had 32 12 and 6 with only 1 turnover, he's the only reason they kept it close in the 4th quarter

edit: 2 turnovers now

This cohort (starting Tatum's rookie season) is 11-6 in elimination games. Caveat is that 5 of those wins came last year due to their going down 3-2 and 3-0.

Haha that last 3 tells you everything you need to know about this joke of a franchise. This is the Super Bowl for thé teams that don’t have a prayer to win the whole thing.

Tatum was 32/12/6 - on 13-26 shooting, Not a dog. Just not 26 points on 18 shots and a triple double like Haliburton.

Well, that was pretty intense for what would normally be a going through the motions game. I was a major skeptic, and was wrong. Kudos to the nba!

Definitely can’t be understated how much Porzingis would have helped tonight. He’d feast against this small team and would have helped a lot at the rim. Al looked pretty tired and ground-bound tonight.

Teams were 22-9 shooting 45% or better from 3 on 35+ attempts against the Celtics entering tonight all time, including playoffs. Can't win these types of games regularly. And that's just a broader statement about the Association, as all teams were a collective 812-182 when doing so all-time before tonight with playoffs, or a .816 W%.

Hard not to be happy for Nesmith and a franchise that hasn’t had much to cheer about for a long time. The world gets to see more of Halliburton, the C’s are spared some wear and tear, and maybe the loss gives them a little more motivation. Can’t get too worked up about it.

Al averages 22 minutes a game.

In the 4 games since KP has gone out, that number has gone up to 31/game.

I know they've had some rest, but I just don't think you can use him that much. Kornet was giving them good run, Hauser got stapled to the bench when Indy was going small anyway. Joe needs to recognize this.

Better barometer is OT games. Last year they were 4-8 in OT, this year 0-2, which seems sort of inexplicable for a team that plays .700 ball.

Coaching in late and close matters.

Anyone degrading the Pacers by saying 'its their Superbowl' will be shitting their tighty whities if the C's have to play them in June. They just got a few series worth of playoff experience in one night let alone what happens the rest of the tournament. Tip yer cap.

Yep. Al just can’t play big minutes for long stretches anymore. Which is why they are FUCKED if Porzingis misses significant time when it matters. Which scares the shit out of me.

That’s a rather large caveat since the Celtics have more talent both of those teams.

The losses to get down 3-2 and 3-0 were also “big games” they choked away.

They’re absolutely a solid team, but if at full strength this squad loses to Indiana in a 7 game series I will consider the Jays era a lost cause and personally drive them both to the airport. Not happening.

I don’t understand this.
He had nearly the exact numbers when they scored 155 against the Pacers earlier except he got to 30 pts on 9/15 shooting and 3/5 from 3. Tonight he was 13/26 2/8. It just looked like he was stuck in the meat grinder all night and nothing came easy. Not really worth getting into a semantic argument but I'd say he fell short of excellent.

The real caveat is that six is the largest number of losses they could have for this time period. They can’t answer questions about their ability to put teams away close and late unless they win it all. The IST was a nice chance to put some of that to bed. After seven tournaments, team now has seven losses in elimination games.

I follow what you’re getting at but it’s hard to explain and can’t be quantified. I hate to say “soft” but that’s kind of what it is. You can’t out-talent the Celtics but they can be had if you punch them in the mouth with physical play. I think at full strength they’re too talented this year for that to matter but I do think there’s something to it. Seems like they still go through stretches where they’re too easily flustered by physical defense and it leads to bad decisions. The turnover problem doesn’t seem to have been fixed.
