The bigger issue here is that the Jets are making it painfully obvious Geno Smith is not ready to start, and perhaps not anytime soon.

Sanchez must have seen this during the OTA's, thus the bit of chest-thumping he's doing now.

CORTLAND -- Aaron Berry's season is over. Already.

The cornerback -- who expected to see ample playing time this season -- suffered a torn ACL on the Jets' first day of training camp. The news was first reported by Central Pennsylvania TV station ABC27.

Berry, a Pitt product,  went down after colliding with receiver Joe Collins during a drill period. The cornerback laid motionless on the grass for about a minute, but appeared to be somewhat OK after he was attended to by trainers. Berry limped off the practice field and did not return.

Berry -- who was signed to a two-year deal last October -- was sidelined in 2012 by injury and played in just seven games (two tackles).

they really are the gift that keeps on giving.  In the first day of training camp we have the following story lines out of Jets camp:
1. They failed to sign one of their first round picks so far
2. One of the CBs out of an already thin crop of CBs tore his ACL
3. One of their potentially dynamic offensive players failed a conditioning test
4. Santonio Holmes said that his foot injury from last year is not healed yet and he isn't sure if he will play this year at all (sounded more like a Vet trying to skip some camp time)
5. Mike Goodson, one of their FA pickups is on the did not report list after his legal troubles this offseason
6. The loud mouth WR they signed off the scrap heap immediately threw Sanchez under the bus http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/07/27/braylon-says-sanchez-cant-make-mistakes-like-he-has-in-the-past/

All of that from Day One! I know the Pats have no shortage of awful story lines heading into the season, but this Jets teams feels like it could be inline for an epic implosion this year.

It'll be tough to top last season, when the team went 6-10 and Sanchize put up a 2,800 yard season with 13 TDs, 18 INTs and 14 fumbles.

Still, if anyone can manage it's the Jets.

On offense, they feature perhaps the worst offensive skill position players in football.

On defense, they notoriously lack depth at key positions, and, especially given how much time they'll spend on the field because of the dreadful offense, if any of their top defenders get injured (Cromartie, Wilkerson, Harris) things could get out of hand.

13 fumbles and 1 Epic Butt-Fumble.
I just sat here for a few minutes remembering that play in my mind's eye, chuckling.

Sadly, as bad as they might be this season, we're probably not likely to see a play as entertaining as that one.

Rex Ryan looks skinner than Kate Upton at this point. Not something I would have predicted in 2010.
He kept his big titties, too.

Brian Baldinger says Geno Smith looks good but his conditioning is embarrassing.

Added Baldy: "However, he did look good getting in and out of the huddle, getting to the line of scrimmage, getting the ball out of his hands quickly."

Sounds like a butt-fumble to me...Sanchez got to the line of scrimmage right-quick, and the ball got out of hands quickly too....

Another reason why this photo is awesome: Idzik has declared that he'll be a part of the QB decision, and looks like he's doing just that.

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000222112/article/new-york-jets-will-decide-qb-together-john-idzik-says

Rex Ryan has told the media time and again that naming a starting quarterback will be his decision alone. Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News points out the Jets coach has "been abundantly clear about that."

Jets general manager John Idzik told reporters Saturday that he plans to play a part in picking between incumbent Mark Sanchez and rookie Geno Smith.

"My role, well, I have a pretty big role in that," Idzik said. "I think we're going to discuss that, much like we do anything. It's going to be a collective opinion. We're going to hash it out, and it's not limited to quarterbacks. I know that's front stage and center, but it's every position, everything that we do. It could be discussing schemes, different approaches to training camp. I think you've noticed that we've changed our schedule around a little bit. We'll discuss everything."

Idzik has he world by the balls. He gets a free pass if they suck and then he can hirer his own coach, why should he have any loyalty to Rex?

Not sure where to post this, but this seems the best place: Would you rather? Tebow or Johnny Football?

Jets will now crowdsource the J-E-T-S chant.

As if the chant was so original and affecting that it needed to be "saved".
My favorite part: "Instead, they will participate in a public address-prompted audible version of the wave with each side of the stadium yelling out its respective letter, hopefully in order."

Over/Under on the first time we hear J-E-S-T?

deep inside Guido territory
@RichCimini: Sanchez falls on butt on drop-back for a sack. Groans from crowd. #Jets

@RichCimini: Sanchez missed open Gates near goal line for what should've been a 21-yard TD. And there you go. #Jets

@MMehtaNYDN: Mark Sanchez has had one series with the first-team offense. Geno Smith is in the middle of his third drive with the starters. #nyj

Guess they are starting Geno week 1. Can't blame them, honestly.

Time for a much needed Jets update.

Many of us have seen the initial pick-6 on their first drive:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yCqfuX3IbUw

But the bigger issue is the extremely thinned out RB corp.
  • Mike Goodson is still yet to make the training camp appearance, after signing a hefty $6.9-million contract ($1.925 million guaranteed, plus a $1-million signing bonus). Of course, this is due to his legal troubles offseason.
  • Chris Ivory is showing his old Saints form by missing all team drills so far, due to his hamstring injury.
  • Joe Knight, a 3rd down back on a good (and healthy) day, failed physical at the start of camp, got arrested (on unpaid fines charges!), and got a head injury soon thereafter.
  • John Griffin, a backup who was moving up the charts (by default), has been lost for the season with a broken leg injury in game 1.
Only bright spot has been Bilal Powell, but after that it's Chad Spann and Mossis Madu in the depth chart right now, besides the four listed above. Combine this with an extremely thin OL (LG Colon committing 2 out of 3 vs. Detroit), and the old "Ground & Pound" has become a distant memory -- Jets generate a putrid 37 yards on 16 carries.

Hard to to be impressed by the Jets DL. Should be the strength of the team. Secondary still a work in progress. Not much talent on offense

He then corrected it to say hard not to be impressed by the Jets DL and that Wilkerson is going to break out this year.  La Canfora fucks up more on twitter than anyone I can think of.
