Wow Andy Katz with a new twist on the Magic Sixers trade

Andy Katz

Here is the trade: Orlando sends rights to Dario Saric and will return Sixers pick in '15 and a 2nd in '15 for rights for Elfrid Payton.

That seems like alot
If Philly wanted Payton they wouldn't do this trade and Denver wasn't going to pick a PG at 11 with Lawson there.

They must have known someone was talking with Philly (or Denver) about moving up for Payton which resulted in a bidding war driving up the price. Had to be the scenario.....had to be.

I think Harris and Young would both work.  They both can shoot the three, which we obviously really need after grabbing Smart (which I loved).  Harris is a good defensive player.  Young is very young and has a chance to get better on defense and grow up as a slasher.  Will be interesting. Think whichever of the two is left is the play.

Harris was considered by some to be a top ten pick. If he slips to the Celtics at 17, goodness....to get a Smart AND Harris? Hello future back court.

I'd pass on Harris personally, though I think he'll be good. More in the Tony Allen more however, and I'd rather chase upside given where they are.

This is the coolest thing in the NBA Draft since the Celtics drafted a paralyzed Landon Turner with their final pick -- after Red called Bobby Knight beforehand.

If Nurkic slips, I really hope Ainge takes him. He's Jeff Ruland: a big smelly nasty center.

Agreed. But I'll be really surprised if the Nuggets Bulls don't take him.

EDIT - Brain fart. I meant Bulls, who just traded the pick.

Where do you see the upside at this point?  Capela... Young?

Capela if they want to go exotic, though it seems he'll be available later. I like James Young in a vague athleticism way.

I'd take Capela.

Looks like Lowe was right.

A future 1st and a 2nd to move up 2 spots is a lot.

I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop. 76ers not only got this haul, they also probably get more cap flexibility. They must know Saric is definitely playing in Turkey. Orlando may have been royally fleeced in multiple ways unless this is a non-simultaneous...

What's going on for people who aren't watching?

Isiah Austin found out just days ago he has a medical condition that will force him to abandon his basketball career. So Silver interrupted the draft to recognize him, and announce "The NBA Selects... Isiah Austin" as the tearful kid made his way to the stage to shake hands and pose for photos. A really cool gesture.
