#IU RB Stephen Houston is signing with the #Patriots .. they showed a lot of pre-draft interest.

This is the kid I would be intoxicated on Saturday afternoons ranting to my friends about how much he reminded me of Kevin Faulk. Always thought he'd end up catching Belichick's eye. Good for him. I hope he makes it.

At 230 how on earth is he similar to Faulk?

Just read Waldman's post-draft RSP. He's a big fan of Stephen Houston, who he didn't review for his pre-draft RSP but said would have been his #13 RB. Houston got real money so I think he's got a legit chance to stick. He also likes the diminutive Roy Finch as dark horse Woodhead-type.

But the Patriots, like many teams, also extended invitations to several unsigned players to try out this weekend, and one fascinating name popped up – Nu’Keese Richardson, a speedy playmaker from Florida whom college football fans will remember as one of the key figures in Lane Kiffin’s two-year soap opera at the University of Tennessee.

He was often compared to Percy Harvin, a star playmaker at the University of Florida, and Richardson was supposed to sign a letter of intent with Urban Meyer and Florida in February of 2009.

Kiffin consistently used Richardson as a way to needle Meyer and Florida, and put outsized expectations on him, comparing him constantly to Reggie Bush, whom Kiffin coached at USC.

It’s certainly noteworthy that the Patriots would give a chance to a kid with an armed robbery arrest on his record the day after Aaron Hernandez was indicted on two more murder charges.

Sorry. Should have explained further. He's a versatile player. Always seemed like a wide receiver in a running backs frame in the sense that he has great hands. Had 37 catches out of the backfield in 2012. Played special teams. Split the job with a better, young Tevin Coleman last year and still found ways to make his presence felt.

There's definite bias here but I always felt he might have what it takes to be a solid third down back in the NFL with a career path similar to Kevin Faulk's.
