It's hard to find anything "surprisingly good" or "really good in an understated way" about Harvard University, where excellence is exceeded only by the egos of its alumni.
But man, this football program is something pretty exceptional. Winning streak now at 21 games in a row, reaching back to the latter part of the 2013 season. Many of those are routs, but the team also has demonstrated a knack for strong play in close games. Last year's Yale win, with Harvard pulling the game out with a 35-yard touchdown pass with under a minute to go and then a goal line interception in the closing seconds, was one of the best wins ever in the series...and this week's come-from-behind win over a previously undefeated Dartmouth team with two fourth quarter touchdowns, were just great wins.
There are currently five, count 'em, five Harvard players in the NFL. We all know Fitzy, of course, but there's also TE Cameron Brate of the Rays (caught a TD today), FB Kyle Juscyck of the Ravens (plays most of the time, had a 39-yard reception today), and rotational players DE Desmond Bryant of the Browns, and Vikings C Nick Easton.
Three games left this season -- at Columbia, home to Penn, and in New Haven for The Game. The Crimson's winning streak may outlive the Pats'.
Edit: Yeah, Amherst and Trinity still going strong this year too. Amherst's winning streak is up to 17 right now, I think...
