Simeone is also playing Correa alongside Griezmann. Correa has been playing his best football since arriving at Atletico, but Costa and/or Vitolo (both eligible to play in January) would greatly improve the team.Ugh. What a shitty way to end the game. I mean, great goal by Chelsea -- that patience was spectacular rather than floating it into the box.
I thought Atletico was outplayed for most of the match. I give Simeone a ton of credit for trusting new players: he played Lucas at CB over Savic or Gimenez, and Thomas in the middle instead of Gabi.
Just bragging rights, mostly.
Technically, there is a small benefit. The country UEFA coefficient, which dictates the number of clubs that qualify for Europe and the competition and round they enter, also contributes a bit to the individual club coefficient, which is used for seeding. However, the marginal value of having a #1 ranked coefficient instead of a #4 ranked coefficient is rather small. If you want your clubs to have good seeding, it's far, far more important that the same clubs qualify for Europe every single year than anything else.
(see: Hoffenheim drawing Liverpool in the QR, RB Leipzig having a lower coefficient than a club from Azerbaijan.)
This indeed sucks, but I just found out NESN will syndicate the regional sports network game: Manchester City vs. Napoli. Hopefully, they'll keep doing this going forward (and maybe even pick up the Big 12 RSN game). So, instead of showing a Champions League game, FS1 is showing a special about the Pine Tar game and an hour of Yankees-Astros pregame.
And this stupid Fox Soccer Match Pass isn't even available on Roku or Apple TV. Garbage. So, instead of showing a Champions League game, FS1 is showing a special about the Pine Tar game and an hour of Yankees-Astros pregame.
Last game of his suspensionBig point for Spurs. They very much looked like they belonged against RM. Lloris came up with some huge saves, but so did Navas. Why no Alli today?
Yeah--if my math is right, a Spurs win at home over Apoel Nicosia means Dortmund has to win out.Obviously three points is the dream, but getting a hard-earned draw at Bernabeu is a real accomplishment and Spurs showed that they can compete with any team in Europe at this point. Dortmund tying with Apoel Nicosia gives Spurs a huge edge in advancing; suffice to say they look way better than they did this time last year.
Even winning out might not do it. If Spurs beat Apoel at home, Dortmund would have to win out while beating Tottenham by at least two goals. A one-goal loss in Dortmund would give Spurs the tiebreaker on H2H goal difference, since Spurs beat Dortmund 3-1 at Wembley.Yeah--if my math is right, a Spurs win at home over Apoel Nicosia means Dortmund has to win out.
Also no Dembele and no Wanyama, who were the first-choice central midfield pairing last year. If you had told me in August that Spurs would get a point at the Bernabeu while playing a Winks-Sissoko midfield duo, I would not have believed you.Let's not forget, that was not Spurs top 11. No Dele, and I would argue no Davies, who will be a player in most CL games, and Rose in his first game back. Getting a point while playing Llorente in a central role was huge.
