So...The Memorial will be from July 16-19, with fans and its usual 120-person limited field. I've just noticed that the John Deere, which was supposed to take place the week before (July 9-12), has been cancelled and will be replaced by a *second* event at Muirfield Village, with a full 156-person field (and no fans):
https://www.espn.com/golf/story/_/id/29256450/pga-tour-event-columbus-replace-john-deereSo we're getting two PGA Tour events at the same course in back-to-back weeks. How the heck is that going to work? By the end of the second week, there are going to be *so* many divots in the fairways, and the driving range is going to be absolutely chewed up. What happens if it rains the first week and they have to have a Monday finish which eats into the prep time of players only in the field the second week? (Or is it just a given that everyone in the Memorial field will play the week before as well?) What about the work that presumably needs to be done to set up the course for spectators during the second week, and would usually be finished the week before? It's going to be a fascinating experiment, that's for sure.
(FWIW, I do remember the US Open and then US Women's Open being held at Pinehurst in back-to-back weeks in 2014; that seems like the obvious comparison, but the men are going to be playing from the same spots on the course, and the turf conditions are rather different.)
