Leafs tied it. This is what they do, fall behind then furious rally.
Yeah, I'm starting to wonder how to find out what the record is for most overtime games played in a season. I'm sure they are currently on pace to shatter it. (Also, they are really not good at 3 on 3.)

I mean they just had an eight game winning streak. Might be a blip might be something more but they are in WC contention as of now.
Not a blip. They are incapable of competing when their shooting percentage slumps. They can't muck out 2-1 wins when that happens. And right now their shots just aren't going in.

Jonathan Quick is 9-0-1 with a 2.09 GAA and .926 SPCT. And he's shutting out the Oilers tonight.

Apparently the MFY tradition of washed-up bums coming back to life has spread to the Rags.

The mucky muck
The Wings are having an awful time protecting leads lately (as in the last five or so years). They gave up 5 straight to the Flyers, but are miraculously tied 6-6 as of now.

Medical situation in Columbus. Sean Kuraly was hit in the chest by a clearing attempt and collapsed soon after getting to the bench. 1st intermission started 18.4 seconds early.

That Bedard goal...I do not understand how he got the puck onto his stick like that.

There was no press-and-scoop motion, he didn't stop his feet or even break his stride. The puck was just there all of a sudden.

And it was exactly the right play given the situation. That's the cleanest Michigan ever.

Defensemen either play the man, in which it will be stopped easily, or the pass, evere it has a greater chance of success. All depends on what support looks like, where other guys are, etc. Sometimes the best play is to leave someone “alone” behind the net.

I just can't see how you defend against that play if guys can just pick up the puck with the tip of the blade instead of having to take a moment to press and scoop. Like, have a defenceman permanently stationed behind the net?

Neat stat just thrown up on the screen during the Leafs game tonight: Leafs have not been shut out in 180 straight games. Bruins are 2nd with 70-something. Note - the reason they threw up the stat is the Leafs are up to 50 shots vs the Ducks without a goal.

Also, I always thought they should go the soccer route and count it as an own goal instead of just awarding a goal to the last player who touched it on the scoring team.

I don’t think it’s either…the goal was on a delayed call

edit: didn’t realize they were on the PP
It's not clear in the video clip because they covered the PP time on the score bug with "delayed penalty" but the announcer was just starting to talk about how the Penguins are trying to kill as much time as they can...when Letang slides the puck into his own net.

Working off memory here, but wasn't the first NHL goalie-goal an own goal credited to a goalie?

A lot of NHL "goalie" goals would go away with this change, but not as many as I thought. It's now 7 versus 10 shot goals.

and you are right... looking it up Billy Smith 79-80 season is the first NHL credited goal off an own goal.

Hextall was the first to get a NHL goal by intentionally shooting (against the Bruins) in 87-88 season.

Wait, there have been 7 teams that have put it in their own net after the opposing team's goalie was the last to touch the puck? Is that for real? How does that even happen?

I imagine missed passes to the D while on a delayed penalty where the goalie touched it last before the penalty occurred is the biggest culprit.

No idea who the goal scorer would’ve been but the Bruins almost did that only to have Bergy stop the puck like an inch from the goal line.

I still can't believe he stopped that without touching the net.

Love this play, but watching this it immediately made me sad. Was that really Jack calling the game? Sounded like a different person

I second that. It would have been impressive enough if he scooped it out of danger and crashed into the net - but he seriously didn't touch the net (maybe brushed the crossbar, hard to tell.

Leafs were almost shutout which would have put the Bruins into the lead for "most games without being shutout" but Matthews scored with a minute left in OT. (I assume 0-0 shootout wins, not that those are common, count as shutouts?)

Ovechkin with a nice front row seat for a hat trick from the current best player on the planet, Nate MacKinnon.

Only 10 plus minutes left in the 2nd period.

I know we don't have a "following former Bruins" thread but old friend Urho Vaakanianan scored his first EVER NHL goal....and of course it was a crazy fluke
