I know everyone who has advanced this far is obviously playing good baseball, but if LA gets eliminated tonight and the Phillies finish off Atlanta, it would leave these four teams left:

Hou: 90-72
Tex: 90-72
Ari: 84-78
Phi: 90-72

Would that be the worst final four in MLB playoff history?

The Astros I understand. No one wants that. Is there a reason to root against the Rangers? Or is this just a “fuck everything Texas” thing?
When they give Austin a team I'll consider it. Until then, making Ted Cruz happy is a bridge too far.

Also Chapman.

You think they are nowhere near the end of their run. Mookie and Fredrick are on the wrong side of 30 and under contract for a while. I am comfortable saying that they will have to produce more at the margins - like a smaller market club tries to - to be successful going forward. They cannot pay everyone. If they get Othani, they still need pitching near-term, especially because of the issues you cite.
They've been doing exactly this for a decade.

Great question. I’m guessing yes.

Agreed. They have been good at it. Our teams have had runs where they seemed like they would be dominant each year but the bill always has to be paid. It almost always ends. Maybe you all are right and they'll re-arm in the offseason and come right back. I hope for your sake they do.

Also, kudos on your Costas MLB The Show post. Respect.

I understand why he took, but that was a terrible at bat. That was a chance to win the series and he got two get me over fastballs.

I know we are busy writing the Dodgers’ obit, but that was a bad inning. They still have guys who can hit, and Chase is a place where failing to tack on gets punished.

Agreed that Dodgers can come back. This AZ pen is peaking though.

Totally - you're spot on. Chris Taylor and Max Muncy aren't going to keep walking through that door. That bill is getting scary with Kersh on his way out, Urias done, and Buehler and May both coming back from TJ. The kids haven't shown up as hoped this year and AZ is (obv) only ascending.

Edit: What a fucking snag.

The one thing I will say is that your ownership can and will spend to the absolute maximum level in the pursuit of a winner. They will always have that as kind of a structural advantage.

How'd Pfaadt look? Dude got insane Ks in the minors, but judging from the box he pitched to contact.

Good job not allowing anything after wasting the scoring opportunity.

And ... shit, it's five minutes away from "The Masked Singer" time

Costas having a revelation about the post-season format is on someone's bingo card. Unfortunately they may already be asleep.

Am I the only one who thought during the Red Sox series back in September that the Dodgers looked pretty thin offensively? I felt like it was Mookie, Freddy, and then a lot of flotsam.

Yeah, though they beat us a couple of games with the bottom of their lineup. But that is how you beat them. You have to get the bottom of their lineup out.
