Free parking near the venue, low concessions prices and free streaming of live coverage.

Every event should be like this
Don't forget the fact that cell phones and cameras aren't allowed in. It's refreshing to not be surrounded by people filming every moment of the day and burying their faces in their devices. Truly the best spectator experience in sports.

edit: I just got a lightning alert within 10 miles, and I'm 5 miles from the course. Horn incoming?

edit2: and there's the thunder. I'm expecting a delay.

Man, I really hope nobody was under that tree and there was enough warning before it fell.

Because that is potential death. Really scary.

One of my friends was walking across the 17th fairway when it happened. He is extremely rattled, but doing much better now that it looks like nobody was hurt.

Tomorrow likely won’t go well.

Saturday
Rain and possibly a thunderstorm. High near 51. Northeast wind 15 to 18 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.

Saturday Night
Rain, mainly before 2am. Low around 44. Breezy, with a northeast wind 16 to 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

I don’t watch enough golf to know so I’ll ask: that forecast seems bad enough that they maybe shouldn’t even try to get the round in on Saturday. At what point would they pre-emptively call it?

Sounds like they will get in the finish of the 2nd round and start the third but I’m not sure if they’ll finish it today. Could be looking at 36 tomorrow.

Lightning will obviously shut everything down. If there is lightning within a certain radius of the course they have to pull everyone off.

Cold, wind and rain they can deal with to some extent. If it’s light to steady rain they will play through. Downpour is a different story. Then if there starts to be standing water in the course they’ll shut it down. ANGC probably has the best and most sophisticated draining and drying technology under the golf course so they might be able to play longer in the rain that normal.

The wind usually doesn’t stop play unless it gets to a point where the players can’t replace their ball on the green because it blows away. However the tree fall yesterday has me spooked. I don’t k is if that’ll change the calculus, it didn’t look like it was blowing unusually hard there.

I think they are supposed to be easier to see
I was assuming that but why is that kind of visibility in the air and on the course important since the ball is already struck and why would they not be allowed for other golfers?

Mize and Lyle look … older than 63.

While LIV’s solution is not practical, the second round is a great example of the luck involved in tee times and weather conditions. By sheer fortune Koepka (and others) had a tremendous advantage over players that teed off on the PM yesterday.

I usually play a yellow ball because I find it easier to track in the air. Yes, the ball is already gone, but it’s helpful to be able to see the ball flight and how it bounces. They are conforming and anyone can play them, there just aren’t many Tour players that have chosen to. Bubba played a pink Volvik for a while and I think Rickie Fowler has played the TaylorMade Pix ball for a while.

Imagine if those trees fell when Tiger’s group was on 17? They got incredibly lucky that 17 was empty and the next group coming off 16 was Larry Mize.
