They’re going to have to spend resources on the RB room. Rham is a FA after next year and Zeke is surely gone this offseason. They need another body back there. Maybe another mid round guy or FA signing. You definitely don’t need to spend too much there nor do we have the luxury of doing so.
Sure, plug a 4th/5th rounder or a guy making 2 million bucks there, fine. Not any actual resources.

Yeah, I think that’s all we’re doing. They’re not throwing money at Saquon or anything. Possible they might do a modest extension for Rham but he is 26 in Feb so you’d be buying his 27-29 years, which doesn’t seem necessary. More than likely, they’ll let him finish out his contract and then will use a mid round pick on someone else who can ease into the job and hopefully be ready to take it in 2025.

If (IF!!!!) they have a rookie QB next season get a damn RB who can pick up the blitz. Or a fullback. Or both.

That story does not even specify which knee was injured. The local media has done a poor job on Strange's injury, but as far as I can tell this is the same knee that he hurt back in training camp and was apparently counseled to get surgery for back then. He elected not to get the surgery and play through, but now it seems he will have to get an operation.

Strange's original knee injury caused him to miss all but the first week of training camp. He was listed on the injury/practice reports for the first 7 weeks, missing 4 of those games. And he clearly struggled when he did play. His play had improved markedly over the past few weeks, both by the metrics and the eye test (comments from those that hated the draft pick notwithstanding), and even Belichick noted his improved play yesterday. Tough break, as sometimes the recovery from these late season knee surgeries end up forcing the player to miss mini-camp and even parts of training camp.

BB is signing a player for two years?

That, to me, means he isn't going anywhere. Nothing buy BS stories and talk radio nonsense out there.

Possibly an indicator towards his future. I do recall that Malik Cunningham was signed to a two year deal when added to the active roster, so this may be similar to that in that there is minimal financial commitment and no burden in parting ways any time soon with the player.

The details matter in terms of bonus and other contingencies that determine how cuttable the player is prior to the second year.

From Patriot Maven:

The Pats signed Pettway to their scout team in late December 2023. They had previously hosted the 26-year-old on two free agent visits — the first coming in July 2022 and the other in Nov. 2023. Pettway began his college career at Arkansas, playing three seasons under former Patriots assistant Bret Bielema from 2015-2018. He played his final collegiate season at Iowa State, where he appeared in 13 games (10 starts) and registered 55 receptions for 676 yards and six touchdowns en route to earning Honorable Mention All-Big 12 recognition.

Pettway then played two seasons in the USFL. The 6-2, 223 pound tight end most recently played for the Birmingham Stallions of the USFL and helped the team win the 2023 USFL Championship. He also played one season for the Michigan Panthers in 2022. Pettway spent the summer at training camp with the Indianapolis Colts.

The point is if BB is getting fired the day after the 17th game, like a lot of you believe, why is he signing guys to contracts the night before the teams 17th game?

I assume he'll proceed with his job right up until he's told it isn't his job. If he keeps his job, he locked up a camp body, if he loses it the new guy can cut him for nothing. Also unclear if the other guys involved in this decision (Groh, etc.) will be here even if Bill is gone.

Then what were you saying?

I never said this is definitive proof. I said, to me, this is an indication that he isn't going anywhere. Not definitive proof, not anything else. And I was speaking solely of my opinion. Like a lot of you about BB being gone.

Because he had an extra roster spot after putting Henry on IR?

I know. I just thought the Pats can make it through their final game with Giescki and Brown and not worry about that final spot. I'm probably wrong about my initial thought. Likely, even.

I'm sure they could, though Brown is also questionable for tomorrow and probably out since Sokol is also elevated, just can't think of a reason why they should.
