Do they allow coaches to recruit lower GPA athletes at BC?Is BOB considered to be a good recruiter? That's always the biggest challenge at BC

It's hard to say since, 1) he was working with severe scholarship limits, 2) he had to overcome the stigma of coming to Penn State at the time, a challenge well beyond even those encountered in the normal, day-to-day national recruiting activities, and 3) he didn't stick around long enough to get up a full head of steam. Is BOB considered to be a good recruiter? That's always the biggest challenge at BC
BOB doesn’t have a shot against the other guy if the Jesuits have a sayPer the Twitter machines, it's between BOB and Paul Chryst.
You’re kidding I hope. Chryst would be an absolutely disastrous hire based on his recent performance and reasons for losing his jobs in latest positions. My understanding is it’s BOB and announcement comes shortly.Give me Chryst, so we can go back to OLU
I like the QB background and the experience with another northeast ACC school too.
Thank goodness. Chryst would be horrific lol. You’re kidding I hope. Chryst would be an absolutely disastrous hire based on his recent performance and reasons for losing his jobs in latest positions. My understanding is it’s BOB and announcement comes shortly.
Is there a scandal or something? You’re kidding I hope. Chryst would be an absolutely disastrous hire based on his recent performance and reasons for losing his jobs in latest positions. My understanding is it’s BOB and announcement comes shortly.
No performance based including lack of recruiting interest. Is there a scandal or something?
Where do you see see this? Thamel says no decision yet 5 minutes after your post. It’s O’Brien. What an absolutely massive hire for BC.
yeah pretty incredible timing. Local reporters are saying it’s him but Thamel is a BC mouthpiece. We’ll see!Where do you see see this? Thamel says no decision yet 5 minutes after your post.

Not going to argue with you but will say (1) word is the hold up was around the contract language should he decide to leave and (2) reason he is interested is because he is a Boston guy with family ties (wife and sons).BC is a stepping stone job. Give me a coach with ambition and motivation to move to a new job every time over another Frank Spaziani who is just happy to be there.
Sure, but do we really think BOB's only goal is to get back into the NFL? He has been to the mountaintop there before -- and last year's NEP experience had to have been brutal and, at a minimum, didn't reflect well on him. Combined with the OSU-BC two-step he'd be doing to take this job--and the fact that he's from the area--you have to think he's maybe looking for a place to settle for a bit with his family.A word of caution...
Just remember, BOB left Penn State after only 2 years when the first chance to rise to the NFL presented itself. You just have to know he'll want to get back. So enjoy it while you can.
No doubt. He and I went to the same HS. It could be the very rare situation where he actually values his family and quality of life over constant upward mobility, but if he does leave and they have success I’ll take that over another slog of 4-6 win seasons and crappy bowl games. Not going to argue with you but will say (1) word is the hold up was around the contract language should he decide to leave and (2) reason he is interested is because he is a Boston guy with family ties (wife and sons).
That said, I know these things are fluid and BC is not in a position to worry about that. I would be thrilled to have him leave after having a ton of success.
Especially with the current environment around conference realignment. The next few years will be very important. No doubt. He and I went to the same HS. There is another transfer period coming up. So yes. What exactly is the story with transfers? I know the existing players are going to be able to leave. Will BOB be able to bring any in? If not next year could be really tough
BC players get another 30 days to put themselves in the portal, but there is no corresponding exception for incoming transfers. Regardless, we are so far into the second semester, that I doubt any outgoing BC players would find a new spot for the current academic year. O’Brien will go shopping in the next portal window which will be after spring practice. What exactly is the story with transfers? I know the existing players are going to be able to leave. He already said he’s staying but I suppose that could change at any time. The biggest risk right now is Castellanos. He’s already had his one-time transfer, but there is a temporary restraining order in effect that currently allows unlimited transfers.
Because Kenny Walls rightfully pushed Jay Williams into the scorers table for hot dogging him?I'm far from a BC guy
HA! Ryan Sidney really bugged me.Because Kenny Walls rightfully pushed Jay Williams into the scorers table for hot dogging him?
I’m still bitter about the 2006 ACCCG in hoops. That BC team was a wagon. Fucking Redick. And man did I hate Shelden Williams and Paulus.HA! Ryan Sidney really bugged me.
That's not to say I've never rooted for them though. Thanks for beating UNC in the tourney. And beating the Irish back to back years in football.
I'm mostly indifferent to them. I've never thought of them as a "local" team.
Not sure I understand the Shelden hate, but not even Duke fans like PaulusI’m still bitter about the 2006 ACCCG in hoops. That BC team was a wagon. Fucking Redick. And man did I hate Shelden Williams and Paulus.
Dirty elbow swinger. Also, he was incredibly overrated, as his NBA career showed. Not sure I understand the Shelden hate, but not even Duke fans like Paulus
Yup, the education by a Boston area catholic school and a New England elite university, probably makes it an easy sell to the jesuits and making it a good fit. I stand corrected; this is indeed better than Chryst. And happy Chryst stays in Austin for the Horns, too.Not going to argue with you but will say (1) word is the hold up was around the contract language should he decide to leave and (2) reason he is interested is because he is a Boston guy with family ties (wife and sons).

Shelden was Bam O without the talent. Not sure I understand the Shelden hate, but not even Duke fans like Paulus
That's exactly what he said when he went to State College, specifically mentioning the care his son could get through the Hersey Medical Center....maybe looking for a place to settle for a bit with his family.
We're BC. We're well aware of where we sit. That's exactly what he said when he went to State College, specifically mentioning the care his son could get through the Hersey Medical Center.
I imagine he'll say the same thing about the Boston medical community. But he also has a lot of other strong ties to Boston. He grew up in Andover and went high school at St John's Prep, his wife is a BC grad, and his youngest son is a freshman on the Tufts baseball team. Apparently the plan was for the family to stay in the Boston area even when he was heading for Ohio State. Which doesn't mean he won't leave if a NFL offer comes up, but there's a better chance that if it goes well he'll stick around compared to somebody like Hafley with no ties at all. That's exactly what he said when he went to State College, specifically mentioning the care his son could get through the Hersey Medical Center.
My guess---5 year deal in the $4-$5 million per year. It's a slight increase on what Hafley was making this year.I haven't seen any info --- but any idea what the terms of the contract are?
Any guesses before it becomes known?
Further to this point, the two coaches in the most recent national championship game have both left for "better" jobs. I doubt UW or UM have any regrets about hiring them though. The fact that your coach can be hired away at any time hangs heavy over every college program, with few exceptions (Iowa?). BC is hiring a coach from a job title that's about to attract a sitting P4 head coach. That is about the best you can do at mitigating this type of risk. It's college football. Everybody leaves, whether by choice or not.
To this end, Chip Kelly just gave up the head coaching job at UCLA to become Ohio State's offensive coordinator. It's college football. Everybody leaves, whether by choice or not.
He had quit recruiting. UCLA legit has one of the worst recruiting classes in the history of ranked classes.Wow. That's a guy who worked really hard not to be UCLA's coach in 2024 for $6M.
The ol' "Dan Mullen".He had quit recruiting. UCLA legit has one of the worst recruiting classes in the history of ranked classes.
Who would’ve thought that the BC job is better than the UCLA one? I kid (kind of) but AD Jarmond (former BC AD who actually hired Hafley) has been trying to raise money to buy out Kelley and seems to be maybe a fraud.Wow. That's a guy who worked really hard not to be UCLA's coach in 2024 for $6M.
