At 78’ of a scoreless boring game, Calvert Lewin gets the weakest straight red I’ve ever seen.

I really dislike the elements of Evertons fan base that get off on conspiracy theories but I also really wish there wasn’t as much fodder.

0-0, so a replay at Goodison.

Beto got held around the waist in the box, no pen.

Tiresome.

Twitter flooded with criticism of the red on Dom, from not just Everton accounts.

Yeah i just checked - seems when there's a really bad decision it gets more and more heat on social media. For a midweek FA cup match between two 'mid table' teams it's really blown up.

It really was a terrible decision. Bound to get over turned or - to use one of my fave cliches 'the game's gone'.

fletch, there was no stirring from any of the Palace players, or from the home crowd, or from the officials on the pitch. No one seemed to think it was a foul, let alone a straight red.

I am trying not to be a homer here. I'm also trying hard to remember a red card that less deserved to be a red card, and failing.

And let's forever put to bed the "clear and obvious error" thing.

It's clear that the standard of review is de novo, which is Law Latin for "this reversal is going to be so inexplicable that incompetence is the least troubling explanation."

We’re getting to the point where PMGOL is essentially hosting “Whose Line is it Anyway.” Rules are made up and the points don’t matter.

I’m not exaggerating when I say that NO ONE in the building thought it was even a foul let alone straight red. Chris Kacanaugh was staring right at it. It was a 0-0 game where both teams had struggled to sustain anything so you’d think that a hard foul would draw protests but no Palace player that I saw was raising his arms in the universal WTF gesture. The Palace fans didn’t react.

just crap.

At first glance, it looked like a dangerous slide by DCL. The Palace player pulled out of it, avoiding injury and the red that would've accompanied it. I would say that merits a yellow card, but I didn't see it live.

That last video is the game feed.

No one thought it was a foul in real time let alone red.

My first time seeing this red card and I'll admit I watched the video and thought it cut off somehow before the challenge in question. That is absolute insanity.

Alan Brazil is one of my favourite gammons. But i do like it when i agree with him on something footie related, cos he doesn't mince his words. Few folk can say "The game's gone" as well as Brazil.
I don’t know the man or his history- just appreciate a good rant.

He was in the Ipswich team that won the Uefa Cup in 1981 and came 2nd in the old division 1 - pretty sure Sir Bobby Robson was the manager. He had a decent career - got a few caps for Scotland. But he's been with Talksport for over 20 years now.
When he talks about anything other than foootball he's an old man yelling at clouds. He is well known for loving a drink. Him and Parlour always head to the pub after their show. He plays the part of the dour Scot well enough to keep his job.

Spurs really missing Son's decisiveness as they struggle to break through Burnley.

Burnley's backup keeper who is playing today looks like Zach Edey if he was a foot shorter.

Burnley just miss leveling at the end of stoppage time, keeper-up-for-a-corner could have had an assist

Sunderland management altered the signage on the away-fans section of the Stadium of Light in an effort to be accommodating (???) to the Newcastle fans

Sunderland fans furious & understandably so. WTF man?

Switched to Maidstone and Stevenage at halftime, which is possibly being broadcast via an iPhone 13 held by someone in the stands.

The FA Cup is the best.
The size of venue and quality of the video production suggest a game at a big American suburban high school.

Yeah this is awesome.

Came back late to the Tyneside derby to see Isak tally. 2-0 Newcastle and I don’t know if Sunderland have the horses.

Just to finish the thought on the DCL fiasco on Thursday-

That’s shocking- not the fact of it, which unfortunately is all too familiar- but the implication. It’s not about the technology. It’s the utter lack of integrity. There is no way that a system meant to correct only “clear and obvious error” results in near-automatic reversal.

Maidstone United, all the way from National League South, hold on to defeat League One's Stevenage, 1-0.

They entered today as the lowest-ranked team still in the competition, and they'll play on to the fourth round for the first time since the club was reformed in the 90s.

Gordon was away on the counter with Newcastle up 2-0 and only a minute left, some Sunderland dude just flattened him in the box. Clear pen, no doubter, but satisfying to see that knob get leveled.

Welcome to general society.

Him arrogantly pointing his keeper the wrong way on Salah’s second pen last week is so perfect. That will forever be my mental image of that rat.

Sunderland-Newcastle with both teams wearing their primary, striped jerseys. It's impossible to follow the play.
Nah, this should get the USC-UCLA exception every time. FIFA/UEFA’s increasingly strict kit clash rules have already ruined enough (color limits on World Cup jerseys; hideous white blocks around the numbers for teams with horizontal hoops like Celtic). Keep the FA Cup weird.

I love watching lower tier clubs, seeing the atmosphere of their grounds, looking them up. I’m entertained now by Newport County (18th League Two) hosting Eastleigh (11th National). Eastleigh have a boss crest with a WWII fighter plane. Having to restrain myself from buying a bunch of kits.

Ten-man non-league Eastleigh just equalized off a pen at 81’. Sun setting over this little ground that is absolutely rocking. Highly recommend the last few minutes of this

That would be a Spitfire - also the team’s nickname.

Oh my Shrewsbury player had a great chance to even it up. but he's got it all wrong, shanked it well wide from 7 yards.

That was a much closer effort from outside the box.

Not long to go now.

game over. Wrexham in the hat for the 4th round.
