72 in that wind is super impressive
With a body held together by duct tape after playing 5 holes in the morning. Played just about as many holes today as he has all year (23-24).

they should give him the 1-club challenge. He’s still probably make the cut.

Wild wind today. Shooting even par for Tiger is probably an accomplishment.

Weekend is a whole different game with perfect weather.

Thank you for your service, Tiger Woods, for erasing Gary Player from another entry in the record books.

Max the Pro looks like he's sitting pretty right now.

This weekend is shaping up to be really fun. I really didn't want to have a Masters where Bryson ran away with it on Friday using mad scientist 3d printed irons.

Another year with Tiger playing on the weekend in the Masters makes my heart happy.

Wyndham Clark is in position to ruin a lot of people's weekend.

EDIT: And he just dropped under the cut line instead.

I was there today - first time ever. Just an incredible experience. $1.50 Pimento cheese sangwich and beyond.

The wind was as has been shared. Got windier as day went on. I spent a lot of time parked next to 17th green. I think I only saw one birdie. Has to cover face and drink constantly due to wind whipping up sand out of the bunker. Downwind meant lots of approach shots were long, so got some great closeups of a lot of players. They all used 56-60 degree wedges to chip from there off the tight lies. Even for bump and run type shots.

Saw Bryson’s drive there (was walking next to that group) - 50 yds ahead of playing partners.

As many have said - the elevation changes don’t get picked up by the TV. The downhill
approaches on 2 and 10 particularly. Course is ridiculous hilly. It’s amazing Tiger is out there and doing so well - it’s a beast to walk.

Not sure if I am way behind, but based on where the broadcast is this post wasn't talking about the one he just made on 16. Which was mighty impressive.
I was talking about the one he hit on 12, buried in the steep upslope far side from the green and he pitched it within 3 feet. The one on 16 was great too, unreal bunker work from him yesterday.

I'll probably post this in the PGA thread, but figured at the moment this thread has more eyes from golf fans.

I've never attended a pro golf tournament. The US Senior Open is going to be in at Newport Country Club in June. A lot of the players I grew up watching. Anyone planning on going? Any thoughts on what this would be like? Would I be better off going on Thursday/Friday or on the weekend? Seems cheap enough that I could maybe just cut out of work Thursday or Friday afternoon and catch a few hours. This would be super easy for me as I have accommodations I could stay at in Bristol.

Any other SoSHers have this circled on their calendar? Maybe @Zomp

I actually considered volunteering since I live in Newport but didn’t want to dedicate a full 4 days to the tournament. My understanding is that tickets aren’t hard to get so plan to attend one of the days depending on weather since I’m here.

Ugh, Tiger hits a beautiful, monster drive on the first, but hits a pretty bad approach into the green (looks like 30+ feet away to me).

Would love for him to play his way into a late Sunday pair, but I just can't see it happening.

@SoxJox is volunteering. He made a thread on the main board because of a Red Sox connection.

The USGA had a sale on tickets and I bought a handful good for admission all tournament days, planning to pick a round once we find out the weather.

After Tiger's birdie at 5, the announcers were basically saying, "Tiger is right in this, scores are going to up, not down, here's right there."

And then he bogeys and doubles. +4. Not right in this, unfortunately.

He just hit an indifferent chip on 8 and snarled "Oh, fuck off!" at himself. Not sharp today.

Its not the olympics and theres no teams, so why the country next to the player's name on the TV intro/outro leaderboard?

Since theyre both near the bottom, a Tiger/Phil early pairing tomorrow would be a fun thing for fans.
