Apparently the 3rd rounders are SJS --> VGK? Now I'm confused at this deal.

Hertl is still owed quite a bit of money. My take was SJS had to include those picks as they are only holding 17% of his remaining cap hit. I wonder Vegas started off asking SJS to hold a much higher % and ultimately negotiated to 3rd rounders making it also look like a salary dump.

Not like Vegas won't find a way to make it work. They always do, sadly.

I get what you guys are saying but if Stone is miraculously ready to play on April 19 then there better be an investigation. We were ripshit when Tampa did this once with Kucherov.

The only way there would be an investigation is if the other teams bitched ( and none of them want to open up that can of worms), or if there was such fan outrage up in Ontario & Quebec that the league office felt like that have to do something.

Honestly I think the LTIR loophole is a good thing. It allows more player movement, and allows good teams to replace truly injured guys so that they don’t miss the playoffs, so it’s better for the fans.

The players love it because it literally creates more money for them, and allows more guys to compete for the cup.

And the owners don’t care because the contracts are insured so they get 80% of the cash back.

I’m other words, everyone should embrace it because it isn’t going away anytime soon.

Yeah you don’t get bonus points for winning nobly. They’re playing within the rules. Good for them.
It’s almost certainly a violation of the CBA—the commissioner is specifically empowered to investigate IR shenanigans like extending time beyond true injury—but apparently not one that anyone cares enough about to put up a stink.

Yeah I don't think he's back for day 1 of the playoffs. And let's not forget the Bruins did the same thing last year with multiple guys, we can't complain.

That said, I think the solution is pretty easy. If you're on LTIR on the last day of the season, you're ineligible for either the playoffs or some portion of it. It's not a hard fix.

An even easier fix is it just enforce the salary cap into the playoffs. Why have one set of rules for the regular season and a different set for the playoffs? Just extend game 82 of the cap for the remainder of the playoffs. Players can still go on/off LTIR to accommodate for any true injury issues but you can't suddenly field 3 new all-stars just because the playoffs start.

Because the players aren't getting paid in the playoffs.

I get that but they can still enforce the salary cap as it if was just extend the last day of the season throughout the playoffs for cap purposes.

I think 13 of the 16 playoff teams last year used LTIR. The cat is out of the bag with this thing. Vegas and Tampa have been the most egregious, but use of LTIR "until the playoffs" is rampant.
