Unless he goes into a tailspin, it's safe to say Raffy Minor is on the team.
Oddly, I think that if he plays some IF next week, he's definitely making the team. If he's also a tolerable back-up IF, then they can keep Refsnyder, whom I think they want to keep just because RHH.

Miami (oh, Miami!)
ha! well, nice to see a good inning from Houck at any rate (and a good spring so far)
If Houck is on, he can be truly excellent for the first couple of times through the order. He's capped at 25 pitches or so right now, so he hasn't tested that really (and won't so long as the ST games involve subbing in lots of players.)

That said, it's good to see him healthy and focused after last year's injury.

yep, good to see indeed--but, as you suggest, not clear whether he can be an effective starter. I guess he'll probably have the chance to try again, even though he could very well be better suited to relief.

Dammit, Abreu made a cannon of a throw to home with 2 outs that would have nailed the runner, but McGuire couldn't handle it and the run scores.

1-0 bad guys but man, Abreu had the runner dead at the plate and McGuire should have had it. Also the play before was an easy foul ball Dalbec catches with ease but for the screen. Kind of snakebit. Pivetta shouldn't have grooved the next pitch, though, terrible location.

Over the last few years, it seems that "catching the ball on tag plays" has become something of a lost art (or a diminishing skill) for catchers. I know it's not an easy play -- there are no easy plays -- but it seems like more close plays at the plate have become not-outs for this reason than in the past. Ironic, if true, given the prohibition on wiping out the catcher.

Miami (oh, Miami!)
Does anyone know a way to listen to WEEI via the web - as opposed to the MLB baseball site, which won't let me do it.

PM me if you wish to be discrete.

Sorry, that last post cut off too fast. WEEI AM 850 is available through my Amazon echo, I've used it a few times. Before I knew that worked, I was able to get it online through googling WEEI 850 AM.

Thanks both - they're getting good at killing broadcasts though.

I grabbed the month to month audio for the moment.

Why did I pay money to listen to these two idiots?

It's an addiction, I tell ya.

I am wondering how many rhh they have to face a lhp. They are not here today.
Tough to judge based on today because the trip to Tampa is one of the longest bus rides of the spring so a lot of guys beg out.

The RHH most likely to be on the roster for the season (barring injuries) include Wong, Story, Grissom, O'Neill, Refsnyder, Reyes, and Rafaela. Fortunately, Devers, Casas, and Masa don't really need to sit against lefties much.

Huh, I was able to get the audio through ITP's link. Geographical maybe?

And our idiots are better than their idiots, so I was able to synch up to the TV. :)

3-1 bad guys. Yuck.

I was able to synch up to the TV.
Could you describe that process? Watch the tv through the DVR, pause it and then start it again to match the EEI feed? If so, I need to try that again, although today I find the guys in the YES booth inoffensive.

Never mind, I see that was dealt with while I was typing.

Probably less complicated than that. Your remote probably has a pause button. It's not just for watching recorded programs. Just hit it while watching the game. Hit "play" when you hear a ball hit a glove or bat through the radio or something else definitive to sync it.

Verdugo's bunt vs. Joely really got Phlegmming and Bradford's gums flapping about what a schumck Verdugo was.

I used to do that online before they offered the overlaid radio broadcasts.

I'd have one window open to the game, and the other to the radio feed.

I'd time the crack of the bat to the image.

I'm convinced he has no real place on the big league roster and I won't be sad when he opts out in about 10 days.
Right there with you.

Yeah, Flemming and Bradford don't appeal to me any more than these inoffensive YES guys. Verdugo may have been a schmuck, but not for that reason.
Eh, I'm not a fan of Flemming but Bradford adds some decent stuff. For me it's more that I'm glad to hear them talking about things from a Sox perspective than about being offended. I wouldn't otherwise know that Casas HR had an exit velocity of 109, for example. Interesting stuff from Rob on a possible Casas extension, too.

Oddanier Mosquito is now with the Yankees? I wonder if he has developed more bite on his pitches?

May he be just as effective for them as he was for Worcester last year.

Romy G stealing second and then third, he looks like a ballplayer, at least on the bases and in the field.
