And yes huge win tonight. Can’t believe it. The court storming was absurd but whatever. Let the kids have their fun.
Oops, I searched for “Syracuse” and not “SU.”

First win over a top-10 team in 5 years, so tonight was the biggest SU win those kids have seen as students. We should probably be more strict about court-storming from a security standpoint in general, but since we aren’t, I can’t begrudge those kids their excitement.

At least Caitlin Clark wasn't there.

Well you’re a better man than me. I could never do that if I was in your position.
The UConn students can't believe it either. Then I say, look, you bleed UConn blue, right? Yes, they say. Then I say, and if you got a job working at Georgetown, would you stop bleeding UConn blue? They're indignant and are like, no way, I'm always a Husky. I reply, yeah, same thing here. I love these athletes that I get the privilege of working with every day. I cheer for them very hard. Personal relationships do that. But I'm always going to be Orange through and through.

I guess for me it's good that they're no longer conference rivals. Makes it a lot easier.

Great win. Happy for the kids. I'm fine with the court storming more because of what the team has had to overcome in recent weeks. Down to 7 real players. Had to dismiss their most eldest and theoretical team leaders. A top 10 win over a team that beat them by 30 a couple weeks ago? No problem.

I still think they are a long way from a real bubble team. Maybe if they win out, including avenging the Clemson loss next, its possible. But they have exactly zero margin for error IMO

They have six regular season games left. Four of them are against teams that, frankly, aren't very good. Now that means nothing with this SU crew, but still...if they manage to win 4 of 6, then go 1-1 in the ACC tournament, that gets them to 21-12. That's the definition of a bubble team. I think getting to 22 or 23 wins would really solidify their case, but there's absolutely going to be a team or two with 21 wins with a less difficult schedule than SU that makes the NCAA Tournament.

The Quad 1 losses against Wake and Clemson were huge though. They've currently got two Quad 1 wins. They have one more to go (away at Clemson). And of course maybe they'll get another one in the ACC Tourney.

Looking here: https://bballnet.com/teams/syracuse

I don't understand something. They've beaten Pitt twice. One is considered a Quad 1 win, and the other is considered a Quad 2 win. How is that possible? That makes no sense to me.

Different brackets for home wins vs. away wins. Winning at the #60 team is considered quad 1; winning at home vs. the #60 team is quad 2.

Happy that the Orange have commandeered this thread as well. I agree about the court storming. Given what this program has been over the last almost fifty years, we should never be storming the court. I mean our 87-80 victory over JR Reid and the Heels in 87 was a far bigger win against UNC. But for the students who are there now? Go for it!

As for even being a Bubble Team, I just don't see it. The losses like Wake Forest where they weren't even in the game, or BC? And why is it that no matter how the season starts, the Orange always end up with absolutely no depth.

Well in a couple of years they will probably safely in because they are looking to expand it. Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormark wants the best teams to compete for the championship and he doesn't think it's happening. He must feel not enough under .500 teams in power conferences aren't getting in.

However, discussions between the commissioners and NCAA go beyond the topic of revenue and also include the growing wish for more access in the form of at-large spots. In the meeting with Baker, commissioners were transparent about their desire for more access in a 68-team field that includes 32 automatic qualifying spots — 27 of which go to non-power leagues.

“I want to see the best teams competing for a national championship, no different than (the Big Ten and SEC) want to see in football,” Yormark said. “I’m not sure that is currently happening.”

Oh that's interesting. I did not know that.
Quadrant 1: Home 1-30, Neutral 1-50, Away 1-75.
Quadrant 2: Home 31-75, Neutral 51-100, Away 76-135.
Quadrant 3: Home 76-160, Neutral 101-200, Away 135-240.
Quadrant 4: Home 161-353, Neutral 201-353, Away 241-353.

It’s good for him and Texas but I kinda wish (for the good of the sport) that Abmas was on Oral Roberts (provided they were good enough to make the Tourney)

If they play in the NCAA Tournament, there's no way Purdue beats UConn. None.

It’s impressive to this this good after a title, but they have played many good teams.
Also, forest, trees, etc.
UConn is awesome. They can play any style. They're star studded and they're deep and they have championship experience. They're beatable, but it'll take a hell of an effort by a great team to knock them out.

Every weekend I get a push notification that says, “ Upset Watch: #2 Purdue (M) - See if unranked (insert team here) can pull it off.”

Painter is one the bigger coaches to choke every year so I don’t expect them to win anything despite Eddy being a game changer by himself.

With Purdue’s loss at tOSU today I think we can put the UConn/Purdue conversation to bed now. This UConn team should fear no one. Any given game and all that… but UConn is the clear number one right now and should be unanimous in the new poll tomorrow.

Looking forward to Tuesday in Omaha.

This just in ... Rick Pitino's still an ass

Pitino was critical of the Red Storm’s recruitment process, describing his current crop of players as being the “antithesis” of his coaching style and saying they lacked toughness.
“We are so unathletic that we can’t guard anybody without fouling. For me, I’ve always enjoyed the first year, and I’m not gonna lie to you; This is the most unenjoyable experience of my lifetime. This has been so disappointing,” said Pitino of St. John’s season, via Jaden Daly of Daly Dose of Hoops.
He went on to call out players by name, ripping individuals for lacking specific traits he’s seeking.
“Look: Joel [Soriano] is slow laterally, he’s not fast on the court. Chris Ledlum is slow laterally, Sean Conway’s slow laterally. Brady [Dunlap] is physically weak, Drissa [Traore] is slow laterally,” said Pitino, calling out a pair of his starters and three of his bench players.

This is just brutal. Ripping players for not playing hard, or being selfish, or something that can be easily corrected is one thing, but ripping their physical ability is much worse. He basically is like "These guys can't get any better, they suck and there is nothing I can do."

Why not at least put in 16?

Better yet cap it at 8 or 12.
If it were up to me a team would need a .500 or better record to compete in their conference tournament. I understand due to TV reasons it will never happen, but I think it would add some intrigue to the end of the regular season.

He inherited Soriano and Traore. Ledlum and Conway are guys who had a college resume that he brought in. Dunlap is a freshman, no idea which coach he committed to. Seems to me most of this is probably Pitino's fault, but he's never done anything wrong in his whole life and everything is someone else's fault in his eyes.

Filipowski of Duke just got injured as a Wake Forest fan stormed the court (hundreds of them did), and he had to be helped off. If he's seriously injured in any way, they're going to outlaw court storming. Players' health should NOT be in jeopardy because of fans rushing the floor.

Not sure how you prevent several thousand people from swarming the court though. It's not like the cops are going to shoot people. But yeah, that looked BAD.

If you really want to stop it you place real consequences on the home team. Under no circumstances should a player be hurt during a court storming.

I agree 100%. Not sure what the consequences should be since the game is over. Maybe forfeit the next game? Lose scholarships like it's an NCAA violation? I don't know. But it has to be enough that the fans would then care about the punishment.

15-0 at home and 2-7 on the road is something else

act like you’ve been there before, Deacons, you have a good team this isn’t that big of an upset
