The new, balanced schedule results in games on days like this. Add in the condition of the pen with only Martin in decent shape (Winck, Schreiber and Tilt pitched yesterday).

Cora was right to chase yesterday’s W. But with Sale still trying to find his mechanics (great Speier article today, I think), this one is going to be rough.

great Speier article today
Thanks for that.
I also hadn't known that Jansen was suffering back spasms last night. What a shame he had to pitch at all. Unavailable today and tomorrow.
As someone who used to suffer from trapezius spasms, he has my sympathy. I wonder if he's tried cyclobenzaprine? (Perhaps not acceptable to mlb, but a miracle for me.)

Find it hard to believe they play this one today- looks like rain all day. Both teams have an off-day Monday June 5 before the series in Cleveland, I could see it getting bumped to that day.
And if it does get played… gross

Game 29
Saturday’s game was a weird one indeed:
a comeback win after blowing the lead.
The odd starting lineup felt like a punt
but we sort of stole home, laid down a bunt,
ripped sixteen hits and resolved not to wilt
after an Ort-like appearance from Tilt.
It took ten innings, but we got the win.
Today’s rubber match sees storms rolling in.
We’ll try to set Sale on this rainy day,
and weather the weather. Whether we play
or not there’s a chance that things might get dim.
Will we tread water, cruise on, sink, or swim?

I live about a mile from the park and it's a steady mist falling. It's really gross, but sadly totally playable weather. I'm going today and will wait to leave until I see the tarp come off the field on TV.

So, Cora wouldn't move the hot hitting Duran up (say, swap him with Refsnyder) because it might put pressure on Duran and he might turn back into a pumpkin? And, Refsnyder might be the weakest #3 Red Sox hitter since before TSW.

Cleveland starting a lefty

He moved Duran up to 5th yesterday. I suspect he's back in the 8 spot due to the lefty on the mound.

Refsnyder in the three spot is less defensible. He is sporting an .808 OPS against lefties this year, which is probably the strongest (only?) argument for him hitting there.

Winckowski only threw 9 pitches, Bleier and Schreiber 15 each, Bernadino 17. They all had at least two days off prior to that. I expect they're all good to go today. The only untouchables should be Crawford and Jansen (and Tilt for non-workload reasons).

It never ceases to amaze me that Sale never really put on weight after so many years in the majors.

These are so well done.
