Time for rotation watch:

Salem

Last week I correctly figured out that it would be:

Tuesday: Wehunt
Wednesday: Duffy
Thursday: ERC
Friday: LuCo
Saturday: Paez
Sunday: Dean

So if they go with the same pattern, this week should be:

Tuesday: Duffy
Wednesday: ERC
Thursday: LuCo
Friday: Paez
Saturday: Dean
Sunday: Wehunt

I kind of feel like they should promote ERC, though, & that we should get like a Trennor O'Donnell start on Wednesday or something.

Greenville

Last week I mostly correctly figured out:

Tuesday: JDE
Wednesday: Adams (Lol I see what they did there)
Thursday: Early
Friday: Mullins
Saturday: Perales + Rogers
Sunday: Sandlin

This one will be interesting with Perales coming back. Not sure if they'll keep Adams in the rotation or not & if they don't there's no clean fit for the Tuesday start if they follow the normal pattern. Plus I think ERC should be promoted. I think a Mullins + Adams piggyback & Perales + Rogers piggyback makes sense logistically.

So I think the rotation should look like...

ERC
Early
Mullins + Adams
Perales + Rogers
Sandlin
JDE

Or we can attach Rogers to JDE.

But for this week I'll predict...

Tuesday: Adams
Wednesday: Early
Thursday: Mullins
Friday: Perales + Rogers
Saturday: Sandlin
Sunday: JDE

But don't feel great about it. At all.

Portland

It isn't actually clear if they're using the same system in AA as they are in A & High-A... but I think they are.

Last week I correctly predicted:

Tuesday: Coffey
Wednesday: Penrod
Thursday: Olivares
Friday: Dobbins
Saturday: Bastardo
Sunday: Wikelman

So my guess for this week is:

Tuesday: Penrod
Wednesday: Olivares
Thursday: Dobbins
Friday: Bastardo
Saturday: Wikelman
Sunday: Coffey

Worcester

So I successfully nailed the projected starters last week:

Tuesday: Fitts
Wednesday: Gambrell
Thursday: Van Belle
Friday: Alexander
Saturday: Uwasawa
Sunday: Fitts

But they skipped Uwasawa on Saturday then called him up & started Chase Shugart, & skipped Fitts on Sunday for Justin Hagenman.

& now they've DFA'd Pablo Reyes, which creates an opening on the 40-man. I haven't seen any reporting of this... but I wonder if it's for Fitts?

So yeah. No clue what Worcester's plan is, but I'll assume it currently doesn't involve Fitts, which would mean:

Tuesday: Gambrell
Wednesday: BVB
Thursday: Pivetta
Friday: Alexander
Saturday: Hagenman?
Sunday: Gambrell

It's getting kinda rough... but I recalled seeing this the other day, which helps:

He's scheduled to only make the 1 rehab start at this time.

There are currently sixteen position players on the 40. All the outfielders are on the 26, so could see an additional one with options added to WOR.None of the current OF at WOR, Rosier, Contreras and McDonough, are hitting.
I don't think they would add an OF to the 40 unless they needed to call one up, which they wouldn't with C Note, Abreu, Duran, O'Neill & Ref all healthy.

They would only add someone for the purposes of immediately calling them up, because you don't need to have 40 on your 40-man so if they're not calling someone up they would just leave the spot rather than having to 40-man & then potentially DFA them.

Is there an urgent need to fill either spot atm? I don't really see one.
Depends on what they're planning to do with their roster.

I assumed they chose to DFA Joely & Reyes instead of sending players with options down because they wanted to free the space on the 40 for someone.

& I assumed they skipped Fitts' start on Sunday for a reason. But who knows?

They also could have 60-day'd Mata & Walter to open up those roster spots, so maybe they just want to focus on longer-term pieces.

Someone noted that putting Mata/Walter on the 60 day would start their clocks, which with Mata whatever, but I can see them not wanting to do that with Walter if they see some eventual value in him as a starter.

Like service time clocks? Walter is on the MiLB IL so I guess he wouldn't be earning service time right now & would if they had to re-classify him to put him on the 60. Of course, he's already 27 & his service time will take him well through his prime regardless.

But Mata is on MLB IL so wouldn't his clock already be ticking?

I wonder if Mata is going to be pitching in the FCL when that opens in a few days.

If they're going to take a more aggressive route with him & start him in Worcester, I guess he could technically be ready before the end of May when his 60-day stint would expire. & they already have 2 extra slots now.

Definitely seems more like a "don't really care if Joely & Pablo go away" thing more than a "this is the only way we can get the space thing", though.

Really hoping he can stay healthy. I don't see his future as a starter and he'd likely have to take a long road back if he was going that direction. I'm hoping he'll jump right in as a one-inning type of guy and best case scenario he can utilize his good stuff we saw and he could hit a ceiling as a closer type.

PENROD is starting for Portland per GameDay.

So another data point showing my elite rotational correctness lol

Eddy P was 2-4 with a walk, 3 rbi & a steal. Yes, he gets top billing. He might be top 10 adjacent in my next rankings.

Roman was 0-4 with a walk.

Blaze was 1-3 with 2 walks.

Gasper was 1-3 with a double, 2 walks & a steal.

Yorke & Decker were each 0-4 with a walk & a steal.

Vlad... not a big strike thrower. Managed to pitch around 4 walks in his 1st 2 scoreless innings, but allowed 3 runs in the 9th & a 5th walk. In total he threw 73 pitches, 39 strikes. Quite a work in progress.

He was awarded the save in the 12-5 win, though.

Karson Simas was 1-3 with a homer, a walk, a sf & 4 rbi.

Niko was 2-4 with 2 doubles & a hbp.

Westbrook was 2-5 with 2 doubles.

Rosier was 2-5 with a double & a steal.

Contreras was 2-4 with a double & a hbp.

Meidroth was 1-3 with 2 walks.

Hickey was 1-3 with a walk & a sf.

McDonough was 1-5 with a double.

Sogard was 1-4 with a walk.

All 9 players in Worcester's lineup got at least 2 TB (if you count walks, which the actual box score doesn't).

Salem was down 12-0 after some rough pitching from the usual suspects Reguillo & Francis Hernandez, & an uncharacteristic 2-run inning from JoJo Ingrassia (big closer energy when you suck down 10).

They are making a furious comeback & are now down 12-4 in the 9th after a 4-run 8th.

See, once Salem cut into the lead, JoJo pitched a scoreless inning with a walk & 2 strikeouts. Big closer energy.
