Yep, mine is here Monday as well. You guys go with the metallic or ballistic nylon back?

I tested all in the store today and surprisingly liked the black metallic the best. For some reason the red metallic was a lot more slippery than the black.
I love the look of the nylon, but didn't love how it felt in hand and I have questions about its durability. It also makes the phone marginally thicker.

The screen on the thing is absolutely gorgeous.

Stellar reviews from phone arena.

I got the 64 GB, so it's got the black nylon. I'm beyond thrilled with the loyalty smartphone plan, and the other perks (no upgrade or activation fees, plus $100 trade in) just make this an incredibly attractive offer. I suppose I could sell my other devices too, but this makes it easy. Hope they'll take my Droid X!

Exactly.  I don't need 2 day battery life.  But I begin to feel like a junky jonesing for a fix when my battery drops below 25% before sunset.

I mean, I sleep in a bed with a wall outlet every night.  I don't need 2 day battery life.  I haven't camped since I was six.

Now if they'd had red nylon, or 64 gb in red, I'd have been all over that. The red is just beyond stunning.

The red really is gorgeous, no denying that.  I went with black because I'm boring.

TL;DR: If you like Verizon and you're upgrade eligible or out of contract, get the Droid Turbo. Do it now. Don't even think about it. And go through telesales for the loyalty smartphone single line plan if it applies or explore loyalty family options.

***

I loved my Droid RAZR MAXX from January 2012. Even after it committed suicide within weeks of me getting it and having to shell out another $700 for a new device, I still loved it. I ditched the included memory card for a 32 GB class 10 card that made things go swimmingly, and even though there were bigger and faster phones out there, having come from a Droid X, the experience worked for me. After about a year and a half, the device started to get sluggish, and I wiped it and did a factory reset on Christmas Day 2013. That made things better for a while, but within a few months, it was a struggle even to receive or make phone calls. The BF's RAZR MAXX is in a similar condition now too.

A friend gave me a very lightly used Samsung S3 in early June, and after setting it up, I thought it would have been a huge upgrade over the RAZR MAXX, released maybe a couple months earlier. After experiencing both of them, the S3 was a lot speedier, and had the larger and better display, but I enjoyed the battery life, astounding call quality (The S3 has a horrible, horrible radio, and is basically unusable at home), and user experience more with the RAZR MAXX, though some of TouchWiz's touches were useful. (I ditched the app drawer and home screens for Nova Launcher, just as I had on the RAZR MAXX, and was pleased with the result. But that battery life was absolutely unforgivable. I got the ZeroLemon 7000 mAh battery pack (yes, you read that right), that would get me through 3 days without a charge, but damn if that thing wasn't heavy as all get out. I think I've developed wrist issues from having to deal with battery. But man, that display and that processing power, and of course, the handy SD card slot.

The Droid Turbo for me, is the best of everything that Samsung and Motorola had to offer, and clearly, Motorola took some notes:

Latest Snapdragon Qualcomm processor (805, Quad Core at 2.7 MHz)? Check.
A whopping 3 GB of RAM? Check.
Quad HD (1440x2560) display at 565 dpi? Check.
5.2" screen? Check.
Near stock Kit Kat Android with promised timely update to 5.0 Lollipop? Check.
64 GB on board NAND? Check.
Huge 3900 mAh battery? Check.
Included turbo charger (a $34.99 value)? Check.
Legendary sound quality and RF connectivity? Check.
LED notification? Nope, but the active display makes up for it, and takes a little getting used to.
SD card slot? Oops.

The battery life is real. I had the phone plugged in to move stuff to memory from my PC, and I've had it unplugged 6 hours 30 minutes. The battery's now at 60%. I'll be training it over the next several days, and I'm looking forward to seeing how the battery time holds up.

I thought the SD card slot would be a deal breaker. It connects to my Win 7 laptop as a true USB drive, and had zero problems moving files to it. It worked all in one shot.

Although I'm in love with the red kevlar, the 64 GB ballistic black nylon is absolutely the way to go. Order your phone through telesales at 800-922-0204, ask for the loyalty smartphone plans (unlimited voice and text, 2GB data, $10/GB overage, $60 per month), and get the Droid Turbo 64 GB. You'll get it Fed Ex overnight, no upgrade fee, no activation charge, and in five days of activation (I just activated mine today, so I don't have it yet), you'll get instruction on how to trade in an old device for a $100 gift card.

So let's sum it up:

* The best Android phone available right now, zero question.
* For net cost of $149.
* On the cheapest post-paid plan you can get on the network with the best coverage.

Get this puppy NOW.

I do have a question, though: What turned off some of you so much about Moto X (1st gen) or any of Moto's stuff over the last two years or so, with the exception, of, say, the Moto G, which gets huge props for being the ultimate value device?

It's hard to understand what falls in and out of 'fashion'. For many the fact that Moto has always lagged behind in the quality and features of their cams is a deal breaker, for others it's the lack of the best screen. Stuck with US Cellular as the best carrier in my neck of the woods, I never get more than one, basic, option... I have the 8 Gig Moto X (all they offered) and as a phone and communication device it is exactly as you say: better than anything else out there. If we ever even get offered a version of the new Droid, it will be one low end version... sigh. This is what may finally drive me to Verizon

The Moto X was the best phone I've ever used. Ran flawlessly, near stock android, Moto improvements actually added considerable value to the device, rather than detracting from it (cough touchwiz cough) and it felt absolutely fantastic in the hand.

The camera was absolutely atrocious though, and was a big reason why I made the move to Apple.

Charging update:

I had done some pretty intense activities last night (attempt to get ART runtime going instead of Dalvik, but it took two cycles to try to get it to work, and that really killed the battery), so I hit 2% at 10:32 this morning, at it was at 18 hours between charging. It's been charging on the **included turbo battery charger** and it's completely as advertised: It's at 92%, will be completely charged in like 8 minutes. So a complete charging cycle on this massive 3900 mAh battery combined with the turbo charger is about 1 hour, 45 minutes.

I'm blown away.

I'm going to guess that combined with post #2561, you've tested the mild liquid-proofing abilities of the device.

I went from the original MOTO X to the new one and love both phones. The new MOTO X holds its own to any phone out there. Ya, the camera is truly hit or miss. Some great photos mixed in with a few that I immediately deleted, but it's not enough of a negative to avoid the phone. Decent battery life. Looking forward to lollipop which should hit soon. Nice price point.

The thing is that Google started caring about Android and design. I'm a Mac guy. I own 2 imacs, a macbook, and an ipad but recent versions of Android are years ahead of iOS. And the hardware is great at the top. I do have a little droid turbo envy but the Moto X is awesome.

Getting 20% battery charge is 15 minutes is pretty fantastic.

I love the notifications and everything about semi-pure Android.

Still on the fence on the camera though. Going to take some test shots tomorrow and see how they turn out.

Overall I love the Droid Turbo and am glad I got it over the far too big (for me) Nexus 6.

Is there any info on whether charging the battery faster can degrade it faster? That's unbelievable. Stuff like that I wish Apple would take a chance on.

This is a bit much.  Recent versions of android are much better than they were, but years ahead of iOS is way, way too strong.

Dunno. I know it's a feature of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 and 805 processors. Frankly, the battery charging is faster than Phone Arena tested. I went from 2% to 100% in 105 minutes (1:45) on a 3900 mAh battery. I'm blown away.

I've read a few things about the earpiece speaker volume being somewhat weak.  Anyone experience this yet?  Far from a dealbreaker, but was just curious.

In case it isn't obvious, standard chargers will not charge smartphones with the Qualcomm chips at these rates.  Both the phone and the charger need to be built with "Quick Charge 2.0" for this to work.

Yea everything that I read about the phones weaknesses haven't really come true for me including this.

Screen brightness - brighter than my S4 and fine in direct sunlight.
Earpiece volume - fine (you can do some sound setting adjustments if it's an issue per what I read on some blog)
Speaker volume - beyond fine. Sounds fantastic.
Camera - Mostly fine. I'm still playing with it but the pics seem good enough for me. There is def a camera lag on the official app but it goes away (a bit) after you update the software. You can also download the Google/Nexus camera which seems more snappy.

My only complaints are little things like the battery not showing the numerical percentage and the toggle switches not being customizable. Both are easily fixed with an app though. I guess that's the downside of a near stock experience. Still light years better than Touchwizz though.

Also, I miss the notification light being red when I'm charging it. But the amazing notification system that Moto has more than makes up for that.

Will do.  Thank you.

By the way, if you want to put on a screen protector, I suggest the iLLumiShield. I had this same one on my Moto X and there's absolutely no blur and it feels great to the touch.  Completely eliminates smudges and fingerprints.  Just ordered mine for the Turbo.

I'm going to try and head over on Friday to grab a new phone, but I want to play with them in the store first. I was gung ho about the Note 4, then I thought the Nexus 6 sounded good, but now I'm thinking the Turbo might be a good choice. I was pretty convinced I wanted to max out on screen size, but my S4 is big enough for me now, so I don't necessarily need the bigger screen. I just have a tiny penis and need to compensate somehow, but the Samsung look is wearing on me (two consecutive Galaxy series will do that), and the fact that they aren't releasing any info on an upgrade to Android L has me worried it'll be June before the Note gets anything. The Turbo having a micro-SD slot is huge, and the turbo charging is appealing. I really just need a good camera and I know the Note 4 has a great one. 21 MP in the Turbo sounds great, but I'm curious about it's real world quality. Can it beat my S4 in a noticeable way?

FYI the Turbo does NOT have a micro SD slot.

As far as it being a jump above the S4, the battery life is the most noticeable thing. Also it feels really, really good in the hand and significantly more solid than the S4. It actually makes using it and typing on it much more enjoyable.

The camera is probably not going to be as good anything Samsung produces, although it feels close to par with my S4.

The LG G2's had Quick Charge 2.0 for a year now, it's great--I get a full charge in about 100 minutes, albeit with a 3000 mAh battery.

Any decent charger that supports 2A charging will support quick charging on these devices (I think "Quick Charge 2.0" certification on a charger is just paying to certify that you really support 2 amp charging).  I have a couple of cheap 3rd party chargers that charge my phone quickly.

Yea, it's really the only thing that's kept me with Samsung. That said, I'm using the camera for Facebook/Instagram and not for anything that intense or important, so I might be overstating its importance a bit. The micro-SD is a big deal, but I could always just get a 64 GB phone and call it a day. I've always been skeptical of Moto phones, so it's tough to decide. I'm going to play with the Note 4 in the store because it might just be too big and clunky looking for me. In that case, the Turbo seems like an obvious alternative.

The iPhone 6 and 6 Plus support 2.1 amp charging using an iPad charging adapter for 2x faster charges than the in-box charger. No fucking clue why they didn't ship it with that charger and market that fact.

So you should be able to fully charge a 6 Plus in 2 hours.

Most cheap chargers are 1A max if they are designed for smartphones.  Chargers that charge 2 devices at once are usually 2A, but some of those are hard wired to deliver 1A per port.  You need to make sure the full 2A are available to the device.

Yeah, I have some that don't work as well, but it's not hard to find ones that do.
