First post in this thread is pretty funny.

Edit: Best Buy sold this guy a Nexus early in error and then wanted him to bring it back.

The reason BB was shitting all over themselves is that there are likely very large penalties to be paid for releasing early. I don't quite get why the manager was unwilling to drop the guy $50 to get the phone back. I only read the first post so maybe that is explained later on.

Fresh off the boat
My LG Ally died tonight, so I'll be getting in line tomorrow morning for the Galaxy Nexus. Have been reluctant to give up the physical keyboard, but I played with some phones today and it looks like the bigger screens makes typing much easier on the touch screens. Will try Swype and the new voice recognition as well. If I'm locking myself in for two years, might as well get something future-proof.

Any idea if this phone will come with screen protectors?

I don't really see a need for a screen protector - unless you are unusually rough with your phone or keep it in your pocket with your keys. I think the Nexus has gorilla glass, which is fantastic, but even if it doesn't I still really don't see the point.

Agreed on the screen protector. I can't stand how they feel and they take away from the screen quality.

My wife has a nasty 'mirror' one on her iPhone and it just kills me. Totally takes away from the phone's best feature.

Tonight at midnight, LetsTalk.com is opening up their store to future Galaxy Nexus deals with quite the deal. Using their $75 off VZW coupon, you can score one as a new customer for $154.99 and $174.99 through an upgrade. That’s essentially half of what Verizon stores will charge you.

Head to this link at 12:01 PST and plug in the code $75VZN.

Update: Some of you noticed that their system appears to try to switch you over to a tiered data plan. I have reached out to LetsTalk to get some clarification on this. Hoping to hear back shortly.

Update 2: LetsTalk has confirmed that they have a ‘keep unlimited’ option when you add the Galaxy Nexus to your cart. That should take care of any worries out there for unlimited data Verizon customers.

The coupon code comes from their Facebook page.

So, if I am currently on a 3G phone and I upgrade, and I have been Verizon for a long time, does that mean that my 4G will be unlimited at the same price?

Yes you will be grandfathered in.

When I upgraded online it gave me the option to keep my unlimited data but also switch to 4G.

Related question, I've been on VZW forever and have a Droid Incredible that I'm due to upgrade for my new every 2 in Jan. I have grandfathered in unlimited data.
The better half is also on VZW and just upgraded to her first smart phone (the new iPhone fwiw). She's on a limited plan of some sort.
I get a VZW discount from work. We're planning on going in in Jan and putting her phone on my contract so she'll get the discount as well. Supposedly they'll switch us to a family plan or something like that which is more than what we pay individually but less than we pay together. Hooray. Saving money is good.
The question (if you're still reading) is this: I assume I'll lose my grandfathered in unlimited data plan and we'll have to use a shared data plan (probably the 5GB for $50)?

Okay, so I'm calling VZW telesales to upgrade, and they're telling me they won't accept that $50 Living Social coupon I bought because they can't process vouchers over the phone, and it wouldn't be accepted in a store. I'm on hold with Living Social right now. This is absolute bullshit.

WELL THEN

Just got off the phone with a helpful Verizon rep who was able to apply my Living Social discounts, and with my loyalty discount, I was able to get the phone + extended battery for about $288. On its way.

Oh, and those bitches at Living Social gave me $25 in free social bucks for another order because the Verizon rep was a penis head to me.

Fratboy ftw, creamy Galaxy Nexus goodness on its way via FedEx.

Does the extended battery also extend the phone a great deal? If so can someone post pictures of it with regular and extended battery when they get it?

From what I've read, it's about a 2 hour increase in battery life. I can't look for the pics now, but it wasn't a big bump like some of the other extended batteries. I'll probably order it in a few days.

Why buy the extended battery before even having the phone in hand and without knowing how the battery life will be?
I volunteer with the red cross and fairly regularly (handful of times a year) end up running overnight shelters. That puts me in a situation where I'm moving around constantly and need to have my phone on me and not charging at all times. Usually that happens after I've had my phone on me all day doing my regular life stuff and with zero notice so I don't have time to charge ahead of time. And since I NEED communications in those circumstances, 2 batteries was a necessity for me, and with the difference between the extended battery and regular being like 8 bucks, I just spent the 8. It may not be necessary for everyone, but it's a no doubter for me.

I have had my Nexus for a week. Costco was doing a deal on all their phones so their was a local price match war that lasted about 36 hours. I got my Nexus, my wife an Iphone 4s all for 200 bucks plus joining a plan at 75 a month combined.

Since nobody responded to my thread, I will ask here. Should I try and get a sim card in LA for my vacation (I am coming from Canada) or get one online shipped to my hotel?

My simple brain needs some help understanding how letstalk.com works and interacts with my VZW contract/account? Do they just deal with the hardware and then send contract info to VZW? If I were to order the Nexus through letstalk.com (upgrading, maintaining my plan), would everything still be run through VZW?

Amazon lowered their price substantially lower today. If you're really getting this thing, I think you'd be crazy to order it from some supplier i've never heard of when you can get it cheaper from Amazon

By the way, I've had it with the Bionic. The latest update did not solve the data drop issue, and since I have been religiously complaining to VZW about it pretty much since day 1, they are doing me right be sending me a Rezound. The Bionic was temporary for me until I get the Nexus (eligible 12/28), and I was going to pass it on to my wife. Since she currently has the Incredible, the Rezound & Sense makes a lot more..sense...for her.

Anybody with a Bionic want to buy some accessories? I have the following:

  • Vehicle mount
  • home dock w/remote
  • extended battery
  • Invisible Shield screen protector still in package
  • Silicone cover (only fits over standard battery

You can have it all for $100; I paid well over that for all this stuff.

So I stopped in a Verizon store to check out the phones as I am due for an upgrade. I realize the Nexus is supposed to be "the best" but I love the build of the Droid Razr so much better than the Samsung Nexus, just seems so much more durable and to me doesn't feel as "cheap". Am I nuts to choose that? Or should I wait for the next Droid?

That is timely, as I unplugged mine with a full charge at 6:30 AM today, and ran out of juice by noon, with maybe 15 mins of talk time and not a lot else in between. It showed call time as the biggest drain, with the OS right behind it.

I just got my Galaxy Nexus yesterday, coming off of the Droid X.

It's that good. Seriously, the improvements over gingerbread on the DX are better than I expected. The Email sync (for me) worked perfectly, apps installed, and almost everything just works so far. The only thing I've found is no native playback of quicktime (.mov) sent from iPhone.

I have to agree with whoever said it felt cheap though. Maybe unattached to the Verizon store leash it would be better.

Are we going to get pictures of you lying in bed naked with it? That's the only reason I keep checking this thread.
Those are private.

Not rooted yet, I'll wait a week or so before I get into that.

One full day in and I'm very happy. The 4G is blindingly fast. Coming off of a 3G Droid X I just can't believe how fast things are loading for me. Major plus. Downside is that it of course chews up battery, but day 2 battery life has been night and day better than day 1. I ordered the 50% off extended battery (thanks for posting that Metsox) so that should help out quite a bit.

I don't really agree that it feels cheap, but it's definitely not as solid as some phones out there. It's actually very smooth and slippery to the touch. I'm terrified that I'm going to drop it. Going to have to see if there are any decent cases out there. I agree that the Razr has a better build though.

I installed a launcher app called Nova Launcher that keeps almost everything the same, but removes that Google search bar from the top. Other than that search bar, I love Ice Cream Sandwich. ICS seems to be a perfect blend of Gingerbread and Honeycomb.

Screen is fantastic coming from the Droid X and close to the iPhone 4, but still not quite there.

Overall I'm quite happy and it's more or less been the phone I was hoping for.

Nice and easy to do a screen shot.

Camera quality is decent, not super great. Shutter speed is amazingly fast though. Pics are taken almost instantly. Here's a test pic.

So does ICS let you actually choose a default music player without having to root?

I was running yesterday and I couldn't find my normal headphones so I used a pair of ipod ones and the movement of the jack as I was running was enough that the phone kept thinking I had newly plugged them in and starting up the default music app over the app I was actually using. Then I gave up and shut down my preferred app and the next time it happened the phone started that app as well.

I realize this may also be a MotoBlur specific issue.

I don't have a Motorola, but can't you just clear your defaults, then open your preferred music app and mark it as the default? Both HTC and Samsung allow this, so I assume it's possible. I have Google music set as my default, and it opens every audio file I play.

Go to settings/apps/default music player and clear the defaults like Caspir said. Then the next time you open an audio file it will ask you which player you want to be the default and you can select your preferred one.

Yep, I've done that. Still screws up. The only way I was able to make it go away was to root and delete the default app. I haven't rooted since the latest OTA update. Again, most likely a specific MotoBlur issue. I am praying to dr. bluetooth that google's acquisition of Moto's business means I get better software with good hardware. I like Moto phones the best in terms of feel, etc. But MotoBlur sucks.
